Ted Lieu (D-CA) says the U.S. policy in the Indo-Pacific had been to maintain the status quo and “keep China from doing anything stupid.” He tells Margaret Brennan that needs to be rethought: “In any prolonged conflict with China or Russia, the U.S. will run out of defensive munitions. We already started running out of defensive munitions in a war that lasted less than 60 days, and even against a second-rate military like Iran, they struck multiple U.S. bases. Soybean farmer: We don't want the aid. We want the trade. China starts buying elsewhere. Once they establish those trade routes, it becomes more difficult for them to come back to the US and buy their commodities. Once we lose that, we may never get it back again.

I don't think I'll have to talk with Xi about the final details directly but I'm ready to do it like I did with the UK." White House Economic Advisor Kevin Hassett said today that when Trump is back from the Middle East, he will announce his next trade deal. If we get India or Japan soon...and then China to follow that up... The street is going to love this & if the average tariff rate starts to come down due to the negotiations (aka the WH lowers rates in order to get more concessions), Powell will have more liberty to cut rates due to less fears around tariff inflation. More trade deals, more investments in the US, lower rates...it could all set up the markets to gain serious momentum into the second half of the year.
