Question: Sweden’s defense chief said a Russian attack could happen any time. Do you share that concern? Swedish Dep PM Ebba Busch: “Make no mistake, Russia will not stop at Ukraine, and the next one that would be on Russia's list is a NATO ally, and that would for sure really test the strength of the alliance.”

“Even the apartheid regime in South Africa did not dare to say that if a black man kills a white man, he will be executed. But if a white man kills a black man, he will not be. What Israel did…it is exactly that saying that a Palestinian could be sentenced to death penalty, but an Israeli no for the same crime.” -Mustafa Barghouti @Mustafa_Barghouti on Israel’s new death penalty law.

Amid CNN reporting that Vladimir Putin has increased security fearing for his safety, I asked Ukrainian MP Kira Rudik if Ukrainian forces threatened his life. Her answer: “Of course. And I think he should be. When you are starting the war, committing all kinds of the war crimes, you should be expecting that at some point this war will come back at you, and the amount of pain and suffering, the amount of killings and stolen children that Putin and his surrounding and Russia have committed in Ukraine gives us all, all the rights to fight back. And this is what we are doing, and we will continue doing that until Russia stops.”

Gulp. Me: How much would a $100 pair of sneakers made in China or Vietnam cost if made in the U.S.? Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America’s Matt Priest: “$300 or $400 easily. In fact, we've even just looked at the tariffs coming into place tonight at midnight, a $150 pair of running shoes will be $230.”

The Trump administration has now refused three times to criticize Russia for supplying intelligence to Iran on the location and movements of U.S. forces in the Mideast. Trump said last night “I’d guess they’d say we do it against them.” Rep. Eric Swalwell calls it “a stunning ten-year record of failing to condemn Russia.”

Jim: Do you believe Democrats should force Trump to testify if you were to retake control of congress this fall? Rep. Dan Goldman: “I can guarantee you, Jim, that we are going to use that exact precedent that Chmn Comer set in completely unreasonably turning the screws on a former president to force him to testify on videotape about things that may be completely unrelated to the investigation, rather than to negotiate in good faith as he's required to do. So if that's the precedent the Republicans are going to set, then we are going to follow that. And if that means that it's the president's kids, if that means it's any cabinet official, if that means it's any qatari prince, and including Donald Trump, you can be sure that we are going to use that same standard.”

In a rare interview from inside Iran and behind its internet blackout, Iranian photojournalist Yalda Moaiery tells me U.S. and Israeli attacks have collapsed homes and killed civilians - and describes their calls for the Iranian people to take down the regime “completely nonsense.” Yes, she says, many people still support the war.

Former U.S. Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns tells me that if President Trump does not move forward with the congressionally-approved Taiwan arms package, it would be “a major strategic move” and “the greatest mistake of Trump’s foreign policy in this second term.”

I pressed senior Hamas official Osama Hamdan on whether Hamas accepts any responsibility for the loss of civilian life in Gaza, which residents have told CNN they believe it does. He wouldn’t answer and instead took me on a history lesson of events he didn’t know I witnessed myself.

Today, Ukrainian Amb to the U.S. Olga Stefanishyna tells me that Russia is counting on “further shortages of air defense ammunition because of the war in Iran”, which helped spark “one of the most brutal” missile barrages since Russia’s full-scale invasion,

I asked Richardquest if he sees a pattern in Trump’s seemingly market-timed statements on the Iran war: “Jim, from where I come from, in northern England, we have a saying, let's call a spade a bloody shovel. And and you just got to call it as it as it appears. And here there is no doubt that when the heat gets really hard in the market, something happens. The president says something, he acts. There is a movement that takes the heat out and the market rallies back up again, but nothing fundamentally alters underneath it. And that's the important thing to bear in mind. And in fact, arguably the underlying movement is deteriorating and worsening. All that's happening is the market is being is being teased, if you will. It's being sugarcoated, manipulated with a small M it's being told things it wants to hear. And as a result, it goes back up again. You can't necessarily say that. And I wouldn't say that's the president's motive because I don't know. But I can say that the relationship, as you say, between these statements, market movements, reality of what's happening, true change in the economic circumstances, which as the oecd points out, is deteriorating, that there is a connection.”

As Russia accuses Ukraine of launching drones from Latvian territory, Latvia’s FM Baiba Braže tells me the “real reason” is that the Kremlin “needs to blame someone else for the fact that Russia can’t defend itself against long-range Ukrainian precision strikes.”

As Presidents Trump and Xi meet in Beijing, #FreeJimmyLai’s daughter Claire Lai tells me she believes Trump will be the president who helps free her father. Otherwise, she warns: “Should my father die a martyr behind bars, it will be devastating for the for the party, and I hope that President Trump…can help them see the wisdom in releasing my father."

Question: Does Iran still buy the president's threats? Danny (Dennis) Citrinowicz ,داني سيترينوفيتش: “Unfortunately, no…it doesn't matter what the president will say or the vice president or secretary of war will say. It has zero influence on the Iranian calculus. From the Iranians’ standpoint, they have the upper hand. And if the U.S. wants to escalate, it will escalate. And if they want to reach an agreement, they have to accept the ten points that they sent them through the Pakistanis…The US is trying now to negotiate with the same regime we tried to topple, and now it's very hard to reach an agreement.”

Question: The WH says the president's assets are in a family-managed trust, and because of that, there is no conflict of interest. Is that a sufficient argument? Bush WH Ethics lawyer Richard W. Painter: “No, we don't care who manages the trust - we care about who has a financial interest in the assets of the trust. Predent Trump has a financial interest in liberty financial, and he knows he does. It doesn't matter who's managing it and how many trusts you put into place. That's irrelevant.”
