red-tailed hawks are remarkable hunters that have evolved many specialized adaptations to help them survive in the wild. Their ability to hover in place and stay focused on prey in gusty winds is just one of the many impressive skills they possess.

A man glances into his backyard and spots something odd in the grass — a bird that doesn’t look right. He cautiously approaches and realizes it’s a majestic red-tailed hawk… but the bird can’t lift its head. As he gets closer, the shocking reason becomes clear: the hawk’s own talon was hooked through its eyebrow, yanking its head down to its feet. Heart pounding, the man gently frees the talon. The hawk immediately collapses backward, spread-eagle in total shock. Moments later it rights itself, staring in stunned awe.
