NAVIAI-I3, a more robust humanoid robot, was launched by the Zhejiang Humanoid Robotics Innovation Center. Standing 1.8 meters tall, it can run like a human and walk on various terrains. This humanoid robot appears to be primarily designed for specialized industrial tasks, such as security patrols in underground parking lots. They previously launched the lightweight bipedal NVAI-2 and a wheeled humanoid robot. The bipedal robot is used in manufacturing operations, while the wheeled humanoid robot is used for unstructured, flexible tasks such as warehouse sorting, supermarket shelving, and office cleaning. We filmed this demonstration at the World Robot Conference; you can see it in the comments section.

There is indeed a demand for practical humanoid robots to further enhance automation and reduce reliance on human labor for tedious and repetitive tasks. Starting in factories, they will gradually enter hotels, shopping malls, and homes… (btw, not necessarily in this order.)

Brain-controlled exoskeletons to train humanoid robots! 🧠 Fourier just presented human tele-operators using brain control interfaces and exoskeletal arms to train humanoid robots on home tasks. The brain control interface is the interesting part. Instead of using a controller or joystick to teleoperate, the operator's movements and intentions are captured more naturally through the exoskeleton and BCI. This means the demonstrations are more fluid, more human-like, and better suited for training robots to perform delicate home tasks. Multiple tele-operators are simultaneously generating training data across multiple robots. This is how you build the dataset needed for eventual full autonomy, without waiting years for it to arrive. This might be the bridge between "robots that work in controlled environments" and "robots that work in homes." Before the holiday break, I practiced my Moon 🌖 landing skills for a neuroscience experiment at NASA's Johnson Space Center. I’ll do these sessions before my launch, while on International Space Station, and after returning to Earth 🌍 to better understand the effects of gravitational transitions on an astronauts ability to land on the Moon. More science details below. —————————————————The Manual Piloting study aims to assess the performance of astronauts during simulated lunar landings and to clarify how gravitational transitions may affect piloting capabilities and decision-making. Before, during, and right after their missions, astronauts will complete laptop simulations designed to test their ability to land a virtual spacecraft on the Moon. Cognitive, balance, and others tests conducted during those same times will also help scientists understand how changes in gravity may affect the piloting performance of crew members. Results from this work will allow NASA to create strategies geared toward helping pilots on future exploration missions. This work may also support safety on Earth by improving our understanding of how dizziness and sensory impairments could affect the ability to drive vehicles.
