Except when you actually read the study, there were no significant differences in body weight or body fat changes between the four groups. The numbers Lustig gives (e.g. 2 kgs of weight gain with diet soda) are completely made up.

I wore a CGM for 2 weeks as an experiment on the impact of drinking Diet Coke. There was zero change from drinking the diet soda. That’s just my N=1 experience

I drink diet soda and it keeps me from eating and drinking a lot things with real sugar in them. Give that diet soda as a replacement for sugary and sugary/fat combo treats to some fat Americans and see what you get.
