A small Easter egg that's been missing for 24 years - the original Japanese version of PS2 Sons of Liberty had a different ringtone for the mobile phone, which went missing in all future versions of the game. Will be restored for all regions with MGSHDFix 3.1.0. :3

Holy shit I want that ringtone

what’s your recommended mod list for mgs2? i have one for mgs3, but it feels like there’s so many mods to choose from for mgs2

omg a clean rip of this ringtone audio would be so dope

Insane.

Hey, that's my ringtone!

I wish that MGS1 PC version would get fixes and love like that.

i dont know why i thought this was the ace attorney cornered soundtrack for a moment

I need the audio file NOW

you deserve a trophy or a nobel prize or something for everything you've done

@MGSMGN Why was it replaced?

@MGSMGN Unfortunately the answer looks pretty simple: it was just forgotten by the numerous studios that worked on the game over the years. Later versions of the game compile with an "English" define which disables this specific audio asset, and the different jingle just became dead code

@stargateheaven @MGSMGN I thought it was cause that jingle is the mgs1 theme used in early PS1 E3 trailers and it sounds too similar to that russian song. So they axed it as early as MGS2. MGS3 didn’t have the theme either or MGS4 or something.

@stargateheaven @MGSMGN The theme was in MGS3 - it played on Granin's radio: That controversy didn't occur until 2007~2008.

@holl_horse Wow, your fixes and restorations keep impressing me each time!

How you manage to change the audio? It would work for a re-dub mod?

This audio has been included in every version of the game, just stuck behind a deprecated "#ifdef English" compilation switch. Only needed a two-byte patch to restore. That said, tools for extracting & repacking .sdt (cutscene & codec audio) are here:

@josedek If it's a compiletime switch, how could you enable the branch in the compiled output? It's not compiled in at all

@josedek Simplified version of the code: it wasn't a missing control path, just a define for the final SFX ID behind the ifdef. (Not that missing control paths are much of an issue anyway since MGSHDFix uses SafetyHook and can modify any function.)

I need this audio file to use it as ringtone!!!

Will the PS2 Sons of Liberty extra blood be restored as well?

Most of US SoL blood is already restored by this mod: Still working on restoring broken blood decals on guards when you shoot them. Have a few leads, just working through my list of other stuff to correct first. Will post once that's fixed.

Any ETA on this? Without committing to any specific date, would you before or after Vol 2 drops?

Preferably by this weekend lol

Will it be optional? I like it but I kinda like the quieter simpler tone too.

Of course

Had to be sure. Great work you guys are doing here!

Genuinely so mad that they had to get rid of that theme all these years later. All because of some Russian gotcha journalist trying to pull one on Kojima.

I need this for my ringtone for on call

I'll be honest I didn't even remember there was a phone in the game. I never equipped it, never needed it. 😆 My mind is breaking

¿Se podrá acceder al audio en algún formato de reproducción para smartphones?

That's not an easter egg.

So this ringstone wasn't included on the substance version (japan)?

This game still looks amazing

that's insane

@BladerKoyotte

Bonjour, avez-vous proposé à KONAMI d'intégrer ces fix officiellement ?

cool

It would be great if the ringtone was that cheap toys phones

I bet they swapped this out because they wanted people to answer the phone faster.

wow never knew the PS2 ringtone was different

@Mr_Beacon00 Holy shit
