Inspected the work on the Nagapattinam-Tiruturaipundi New Line project, which is an extremely challenging project because of the completely unfriendly clayey soil. To stabilize the soil and make it stable to lay the track, we have used, with technical advice, the PVDs (Prefabricated Vertical Drains), or wick drains, accelerate the consolidation and stabilization of soft, water-saturated soils by shortening the drainage path for excess pore water. PVDs feature a corrugated or fishbone plastic core wrapped in a geosynthetic filter fabric. They act as vertical express lanes, letting pore water escape to a surface drainage layer rather than slowly seeping through dense clay or silt over decades. Installing PVDs combined with preloading cuts soil settlement time from years or decades down to a few months. Removing trapped water rapidly increases the soil’s shear strength and load-bearing capacity. PVDs are faster, cheaper, and less disruptive than full soil replacement or deep foundation building. The technique requires minimal excavation and utilizes existing native soils. These are photos from the worksite and a video of the drill used to insert the PVDs. Depending on the quality of soil, these would be inserted for 75-105 days. The project for the 37-km line is being executed at the cost of ₹981 crores and is likely to be completed in 2028. #IndianRailways #projects

This is exactly what we’ve been warning about for years. Palm City Estate, Ajah. Billions of naira gone. Someone reached out to us to carry out structural integrity tests on some buildings in this estate, and honestly, it was painful to witness. What we saw wasn’t just poor construction, it was avoidable failure. Right now, everyone is scrambling to rescue their buildings. Not improve., Not upgrade. But Rescue. Let that sink in. One look at the placement of the curtain wall in one of these buildings (video attached), and the danger is obvious. If you have children in that house, that design is a jump of death waiting to happen. And these are the things we keep shouting about. Unfortunately, common sense and construction don’t always meet when quick profit is the goal. Developers ignore basic safety principles, rush delivery, and move on, while buyers inherit the consequences. The quality of aluminium used for the window frames doesn’t even come close to matching the price of these houses. Then there’s the bigger issue; the structural failures that have led to the now famous leaning duplexes of Ajah. Here’s the hard truth many people don’t like to hear: You cannot properly assess the safety of a foundation without invasive testing. Non-destructive tests can only go so far. To truly confirm foundation integrity, parts of the building must be opened, samples taken, and tested in the lab. But many people don’t want to pay for that. That’s why we always say: Ask your developers sensible questions before buying. Ask for: - Structural integrity test results at every stage of construction - Soil test reports (especially on sand-filled land) - Full architectural and structural drawings - MEP drawings and approvals These are not “extras.” These are basic documents. Yet we still inspect houses where buyers tell us, “The drawings are with the developer.” - How are you buying a house without collecting your documents? - Were you drugged… or na jazz dem use? This is not mockery. This is frustration. My team and I truly condole with everyone affected in this location. We understand the emotional and financial weight of what you’re facing, and we wish you strength during this difficult time. Let this be a lesson and not just a story. A house is not a car. You don’t buy it on vibes and fine finishing.

Whoahhh! I’m not an expert but this looks like liquefaction 👀 This was during the M7.8 earthquake in the Philippines last week. The ground is basically losing strength beneath the surface, usually in water-saturated soil, so it can start behaving less like solid ground and more like a thick, shifting slurry. Roads and pavements can crack, sink or tilt as if they’re floating on something unstable, and you sometimes get water and sand pushing up through the surface. It can look like the ground is moving in waves or “sailing”, but what’s actually happening is the soil structure collapsing temporarily under the shaking.

The University of Nebraska debunks the manipulation behind cow farts/burps and methane: “They have not accounted for the capture part, they only account for methane being released. Carbon capture in soil and grass - helped out by cow grazing and manure - can far outweigh the emissions from cattle. Grasslands can take up more CO2 and carbon in the soil and plants, that offsets the CO2 that cattle are producing but it also offsets the methane.”
