In the last couple of weeks, there has been a lot of talk about who is and who should be in charge of the “Unified Command” that looks after the law and order as well as security in the state of Manipur. This issue is being raised 16 months after the crisis began in May 2023! But barely a week after Mr Kuldiep Singh was appointed in May, 2023 as the Chairman of the Unified Headquarters/Command, I had flagged off the issue of Article 355 to Karan Thapar. I had told him about the subversion of the federal structure by the Modi led Govt. of India through a de facto and illegal act of exercising power over the state government. And that this subversion has rendered Shri Biren’s government as a “proxy government” and “a façade”. Not only that, I have also hinted about the “game” of keeping “Biren as the enemy” to help perpetuate the conflict and that if he were to be removed, that “game (would be) gone” as well! That the violent crisis which should have been brought under control in a couple of weeks has not happened so far points to that “game”. Since this interview (9 June, 2023), I have consistently raised this issue on many occasions, by asking “who’s in charge of the law and order” in Manipur, and reminding that the Govt of Manipur is a “proxy” for the Govt of India. And that Shri Biren is a “willing scapegoat”, someone who has protected and shielded Modi-Shah from any criticism or responsibility pertaining to this terrible tragedy in Manipur. "Ongoing" - One of the phrases increasingly used next to the term "Nakba" is "Ongoing" as in the recent proposal by Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib. Now westerners assume that the "ongoing" seeks to highlight continued suffering of Palestinian Arabs, but as with so many other phrases that serve as "dual use language" (as Eran Shayshon coined) is that the deep meaning is very different. Once it is known and understood that the real time meaning of the Nakba, as described by Constantin Zureiq as "Seven Arab states declare war in an attempt to subdue Zionism, stop impotent before it, and return on their heels" was the shameful failure to defeat the lowly Jews in war - it becomes crystal clear why it remains "ongoing": As long as Israel exists, the Arab, and especially Palestinian Arab shameful failure to dismantle Jewish sovereignty and "subdue Zionism" remains "ongoing". As long as, per Bevin's quote, the top goal of the Palestine Arabs "to resist to the last the establishment of Jewish sovereignty in any part of the land" remains unfulfilled, their definition of disaster remains "ongoing". In the updated book of The War of Return, "October Return", Dr. Adi Schwartz and I included a dictionary of sort to explore this dual use language. I share it here with you: "This becomes especially clear when analyzing the language of Palestinian identity and that of its supporters around the world. I can understand the speech being misconstrued by non-Yoruba speakers. But, to understand the language, watching this speech and deducing negativity from it needs to be diagnosed for mental stability. Well, some humans are irrational and easily irritable when others exhibit brilliance and intentionality. Kudos to the current governor of Ogun State alias “eleyi”, for taking in the jabs in the speech, turning it into lemonade. The truth hits hard, but before the speech, it was conspicuous that he “padipo” with the vagabonds of the party at the time to collude to unsit the Jagaban’s own person as governor of Osun State. His role in that manoeuvring called for the jabs. But, after the speech, you could notice a realignment with the master. Even the mouth movement and the head gesture from him in the video connotes total agreement with the jabs. Kudos to the ọmọ ọkọ for not being obstinate. Many would take further offence and dig themselves into a bigger hole. Abiodun did not. He adopted the Ambode Principle of realignment. There is a lot to learn in politics, and the best attitude for learning is to pay attention to history. Pay attention to details, to events, to the quotas people play. But, more importantly, if you want to play a role in politics. Build solid relationships and add great value to the people you meet on the way. Be a blessing to their causes, don't be a curse.
