A statement from our Chief Science Officer, Dr. Beth Shapiro, on the dire wolf project

Lots of words here in your video. Point is- genetics speak for themselves. Black & white. What you produced is a genetically modified grey wolf. What you advertised is the dire wolf brought back from extinction. Furthermore, you can try and justify your re-extinction project as needed for life saving research for current species- but truth is you’re meddling with nature in very unneeded & dangerous ways, mutating the genetic code of wildlife is not your place. It doesn’t belong to you. This is very eye opening, to the fact that there are no laws on de-extinction research. Hopefully that changes, very soon.

In black and white, the IUCN defines de-extinction as, “the process of creating an organism that resembles an extinct species.” That is not our definition, it was written by an international team of scientists in 2016, and it accurately describes the dire wolf project.

Why go to the Moon? Because you might just invent computers along the way. Why study mold? You might just discover penicillin along the way. This is why de-extinction science is so important. 🦣 🐺

The word species is slightly confusing because it's a human concept. In nature no such boxes exist. As evolution does its thing animals and their genomes drift. Therefore I would argue a close genetic approximation of the animal IS the animal. Good job colossal ❤

Thank you so much for this video breakdown. I’m just a genuine nerd that thinks bringing back ancient animals is really cool but it’s really awesome to know that you’re also making all these strides and helping other species that we still have alive today and like saving baby elephants and stuff that’s really dope

It’s amazing what you have achieved. The issue is the media hype. They are not Dire Wolves. It’s very misleading headlines.

Great when executives show their faces and talk like a normal person and are responsive to what people are saying. Need more of this! Leaders, get in the conversation!

Thank you for clearing it up with your explanation.

Kudos and thank you colossal, keep up the awesome work, and If you need to hire and M.D. here I am.

Am I the only one that loves to hear her talk? Her pronunciations are impeccable! 🧐 sorry if I’m off topic, but I could listen to her for at least an hour straight! 😃

Thank you, very interesting info 👍

Can I have it to review please? I adore wolves and all of this is fascinating! 🐾🤗

Does someone have a link to the paper about the grey wolf connection? I was curious to give it a look

It should be available soon. Follow and we'll update.

Okay, so now the real questions are if this has been done by genetic sequencing, does this mean you could 1. Create new species by taking bits and pieces of different animals? 2. Possibly find a way to get the correct genome sequence to recreate dinosaurs?

I'm sure this is just the first generation as well, perhaps with this feedback, future generations will be even closer to that 100% match the internet wants most.

How about $woolly miss?

Wasn’t expecting this - much appreciated. I personally view the wolves as a new species, I think calling them grey wolves is a bit disingenuous even if they share 99.9% of the genome with a grey wolf. I can’t wait to see the paper when it’s out.

Don’t worry bout the haters

can you bring dodo back🧡we miss them

Hey look, your misinformation is going to contribute to more extinctions, not less.

Man playing God ... we were given the earth to steward the animals that God made, not to tinker with their codes and act as though we're doing a great thing by doing so. Jesus is coming soon, and this is yet another sign. What would Jesus say about this is the most important ?

I think what you have done is interesting and valuable. I hope you don’t find yourself in a multibillion dollar class action suit for false advertising someday. The media descriptors are highly likely to be found misleading to a jury of peers. Just tighten up the verbiage.

Thanks for the statement. It helps address a lot of the issues that came up. We understand the timing issue wasn’t y’all’s fault. Fun science is often messy. Wishing folks well moving forward.

Great response to the sudden influx of geneticists that suddenly sprung up on this platform. Most of these idiots don’t know enough to pass Biology 101. Excellent work on the project, the future looks bright and amazing! 🔥

What country is actually going to allow this wolf to run free?

Give me one

Could you do the same with dinosaurs?

dinosaur now

Idc about whether they are dire wolves, I'm just scared about what this will mean for these animals. Humans haven't learnt to respect our current fauna. I don't like the idea of them in captivity, but also - someone somewhere is thinking they'd be a great "decoration".

Are the jaw structures of your GMO wolves in proper proportions to the Direwolf fossil records?

Senator Whitehouse asks Pam Bondi about the weaponization of the DOJ during her confirmation hearing. Whitehouse: "it would not be appropriate for a prosecutor to start with a name and look for a crime. It's a prosecutor's job to start with a crime and look for a name, correct?" Bondi: "Senator, I think that is the whole problem with the weaponization that we have seen the last four years and what's been happening to Donald Trump. They targeted Donald Trump. They went after him, actually starting back in 2016. They targeted his campaign. They have launched countless investigations against him. That will not be the case if I am Attorney General. I will not politicize that office. I will not target people simply because of their political affiliation. Justice will be administered even handedly throughout this country. Senator, we've got to bring this country back together. We've got to move forward or we're going to lose our country."
