Steven Soderbergh said recently that his next film will feature a significant amount of AI. My initial, knee-jerk reaction is I hate this news. It feels beneath Soderbergh, a director I love. But…if anyone deserves the benefit of the doubt with AI, isn’t it at least Soderbergh?

Evening viewing recommendation? Before it leaves Criterion Channel in April, don't miss Steven Soderbergh's stylish, fascinatingly fractured revenge thriller THE LIMEY (1999) in our Terence Stamp collection! Alongside the film, enjoy a legendarily argumentative commentary featuring Soderbergh and screenwriter Lem Dobbs.

Steven Soderbergh used 11 Split Diopter Shots in a row during the dinner scene in THE UNDERNEATH. When asked what made him do it, he replied: "A bad idea whose time had come."

Gladiator was Ridley Scott’s best chance at an Oscar in 2001. He lost the award to Steven Soderbergh for Traffic, a decision I can’t necessarily argue with? Traffic is exceptional. But so is Gladiator. Crowe won Best Actor & this film won Best Picture. Ridley just came up short.

Matt Damon is likely the best interview in Hollywood. His recent conversation with Amy Poehler is 100% worth listening to in full. Damon shares a lot of knowledge on his time shooting The Informant! & the direction Steven Soderbergh gave him. The entire interview taught me something. Also a reminder that The Informant! is a fantastically underrated film.
