A total solar eclipse is a spiritual experience. As a scientist, it's impossible not to feel faithful in something when looking into its eye. The coincidences needed to create such fleeting, ephemeral perfection are too astronomically improbable to be pure chance.

Truth. Unless you see it in person, the difference between 99.5% and totality is shocking.

I think it’s awesome too. But no. They aren’t too improbable to be pure chance.

The Lord God is indeed an amazing creator. Glad you saw it again. Got my bucket list checked in Dallas

I am so happy for you. I was in NC for the last totality in the U.S. and it was the most amazing thing I have ever seen in my life. Take me to Egypt!!!!!!

Find yourself a partner that will talk about you like Matthew talks about the eclipse. All kidding aside it is a very spiritual experience and I’m not even spiritual. #08022027

The Moon is about 400 times smaller than the Sun but also about 400 times closer to Earth. Their apparent sizes in our sky are strikingly similar—allowing the Moon to cover the Sun’s bright disk while leaving the spectacular solar jeweled crown (corona) floating in the firmament

Good on ya if you feel that way, and more power to ya, but to say that something that has been happening for billions of years that only recently was able to be appreciated happening again is "too astronomically improbable" from a scientific standpoint is a bit of a stretch, no?

A powerful and emotional moment 💙 I can't wait for Australia's turn in 2028! I'll be covering that live for sure!

NASA has catalogued a few thousand years of solar eclipses. It is literally clockwork and the definition of probable.

Imagine the odds of living on a planet where the sun is 400x bigger than the only moon, but it’s exactly 400x so they overlap almost perfectly—and only by the time humans roam the Earth. It’s really hard not to believe in God.

Not sure I've ever seen anyone so pumped about both the weather and the eclipse. Impressive dedication. Enviable. I wish I loved anything as much as you love an eclipse.

💙

This is amazing. Probably my favorite video of yours now. Totally agree this all didn't happen by chance. Thanks for sharing this with us.

And how lovely to have your family there to celebrate the occurrence with you.

This is incredible. I felt the same way when I saw 2024’s totality in Vermont, you’ve just put it much more eloquently than I would have!

Spain is beautiful, enjoy it Matthew!

See you in Egypt next year

It was awe-inspiring, maybe spiritual. Religious? No 👎

Congrats dude! Ive done 2 now in my life... i have very few photos from them. I lived them...I chose to feel & experience the moment which is absolutely right...spiritual. Our planet & our solar system is a very special place.

Beautiful! So grateful you felt what you felt having your experience during this eclipse. I felt your gratitude deeply. Amazing. Thank you.

You’re a very lucky man! You get to do what you love. So cool you got to be there with your family too!

It brings us that much closer, but yet still so far! 🤔

I've seen two full eclipses...there is nothing else like it on earth. Folks who have only seen partial have no idea the difference between the two.

But it is very probable and happens on many other planets. Still a sight to see! Have fun.

🔥

Where were you?? We checked it out in Mallorca

Very happy for you 😊 What an emotional moment Thank you for sharing this eclipse day Take care 🙂

@WickyDubs2 So happy you got to experience this Matthew

I'm so happy for you & your family! Your passion & energy are refreshing in today's world 🌎

ciencia (y matemáticas) hijo!!!

It can still be remarkable and yet totally natural. The moon has an eliptical orbit. Sometimes it's an annular eclipse sometimes total. It's also moving away from the earth at a metre every 25years. A total eclipse when the dinosaurs were around would have been something totally different. Eventually we won't have total eclipses only annular. Just enjoy the astronomical serendipity without applying supernatural reasoning. Not exactly scientific. Still, on the bucket list. Hopefully southern Spain next year.

💯

Yep

Thrilled to see how meaningful this is to you, dude. I’ve got to make it out for one in the coming years myself. As I’ve heard some scientists say, the science starts to become too inexplicable at a certain point. I think that’s very moving in and of itself.
