And here’s where it becomes interesting: local Greens councillors were planning to redevelop Marrickville golf course, cutting it back from 18 holes to just 9. Locals opposed this plan — arguing that shrinking the course would make the club financially unviable, warning that if the club went out of business, the vacant golf course would inevitably become a target for developers seeking rezoning for future residential high-rises And if this happened, it would have had a detrimental effect on the values of properties nearby the golf course — including Albanese’s. So Albanese may not have been able to enjoy all the $1.6 million capital gain he’s received so far from the increasing value of this property (also driven up in recent years by unprecedented levels of excess migration) in same street as the golf course - if the golf course was replaced by high rise developments. And as Mayor Darcy Byrne has admitted, the $6 million grant has helped secure the long-term future of the golf club — killing off the potential of high rise housing developments replacing the golf course - something from which Albanese has personally financially benefited. So here’s what we are left with: Albanese has used $6 million of taxpayers’ money in a dodgy grants program, which makes the Liberals’ “sports rorts” look like child’s play. And from this, Albanese has received a personal benefit — and then he’s lied, misleading Parliament to cover it all up. It’s difficult to see how Albanese can now continue as Prime Minister.
