A video released today by China's State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, which oversees over 100 major central enterprises, became one of the biggest trending topics on Chinese social media today. The footage was shot on the Gobi Desert in Ruoqiang County (若羌县) in eastern Xinjiang, at the foot... of the Altun Mountains (阿尔金山), beyond which stands the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau. There, the site spans 17 square kilometers of what was once empty sand. Now, a robot is taking over: automatically moving and precisely mounting solar panels at a pace that makes the whole operation look less like a construction site and more like a Martian base. "Did I just wake up in the future? Is Mars installing solar panels now?" Chinese netizens joked. By the end of November, this will be a 1-gigawatt solar plant, powering 500,000 homes. The robot is homegrown. The panels? 32 kilos each. Not long ago, this was all muscle and sweat, and a dangerous job at height. Now, the robot with suction cups moves them like paper, at least 60 an hour. No fatigue. No mistakes. No falls. Xinjiang is rich in solar and wind resources. Now, over 60% of its power generation comes from renewables. That clean power is helping China hit carbon peak by 2030 and neutrality by 2060, while supplying grids in eastern, central, and southwestern China. So no, "Mars" is not installing solar panels for now. But the Gobi Desert is becoming China's own energy planet. Over to you, Mars and Elon.show more

🇩🇪 SAD INDUSTRIAL STORY Germany built a huge solar power plant with moving solar panels, which turn with the sun and fold together in case of danger. The Solarpark Erlasee was the benchmark for the green energy transition! The plant was the largest open-air photovoltaic plant in the world in 2008. Now, years later ALL companies that produced the solar panel moving panels are bankrupt, so they cannot be maintained! The panels get struck in wrong position and repairs are extremely expensive, because spare parts are made by custom hand. In addition the energy subsidies ran out, and the electricity production is just not profitable anymore! Now the solar field is bankrupt. -> Man, everyone involved in this project became bankrupt! Everyone!

Gigascale Founder and former Meta CTO Mike Schroepfer says new solar startups will go after installation costs rather than compete with China on solar panels. "If you look at a solar farm, you lay down all this steel and put up all this framing for the panels. When that panel was the most expensive thing on the field, then [startups producing solar panels] made sense." "But solar panels are now the cheapest thing in the field. All the rest of the stuff costs more than the panel." "I think what we're going to see is startups saying, 'Let's rethink how we actually deploy solar from a form-factor and automation perspective. And just go after installation costs.'"

🚨“The Chinese, who manufacture virtually all of our solar panels…have been installing cellular radios inside the inverters, which can act as kill switches," says Michael Shellenberger "There was actually a Chinese solar company that turned off the solar panels and sent up a little message to its users, saying: we've turned this off because these solar panels are only authorized to be used in certain countries. …So we know that the Chinese solar companies—all of which essentially can be used as arms of the Chinese military…they are able to to switch off large amounts of solar. And if you are able to do that, then you are able to cause the de-powering and blackouts of the grid. How big of a problem is this? …I think most national security experts view this as something that the Chinese could do if there was, for example, an invasion of Taiwan, and the United States decided to defend Taiwan. The Chinese could potentially trigger blackouts in the United States and Europe. As crazy as that sounds, that is the reality."

Elon Musk predicts that more than 90% of Earth's power will eventually come from solar with batteries "Satellites are just solar panels and a battery. That’s how all satellites work. With the Starlink satellite network, there’s 7,000 (now ~10K) satellites orbiting the Earth, and all they use is solar panels and a battery My prediction is, long-term, a majority of power on Earth - in fact, eventually it might be like 90% or more- will be solar panels with batteries That's my prediction. My predictions have a pretty good track record" Starlink already proves it works at massive scale in space

Elon Musk: If you covered the entire cleared area around a nuclear power station with solar panels, the solar panels would often produce more electricity than the nuclear plant itself. “If you take a nuclear power station and the whole clear area that's around it, it ends up being quite a bit of land. If you carpeted that land with solar panels, which would generate more, the nuclear power station or the solar panels? And usually, it's the solar panels. Now of course, you could always amp up the nuclear power station, but just taking the way things currently are, that's sort of an interesting data point. It's just to give you a sense of how much energy is hitting the Earth from the sun.” From: Interview at the EEI Annual Convention, June 11, 2015

We’re building a first-of-its-kind large-scale solar field on a closed coal ash site in western Kentucky! At the same site as our Shawnee Fossil Plant, construction for the Project Phoenix solar field is well underway! Using innovative technology, our skilled crews are installing a whopping 240,000 solar panels, all without disturbing the material underground. Once online, the site will generate 100 megawatts of power for the region – enough to power 58,000 homes! ☀️🏡 This project is transforming a former coal ash site into a new opportunity to power the Tennessee Valley and pushing innovative technology further for our country! 🇺🇸⚡️

China’s pace of solar panel installation is extremely fast. 🇨🇳 So, at peak times, China has been installing on the order of ~100 panels per second. That’s a lot of repetitive work to be done. Robots are now handling the solar panels, making installation faster, safer, making installations faster, safer, and hands-free. Operators can focus on wiring and more technical demanding tasks. The placing process is delegated to robots, who can do it without getting exhausted. Due to safety reasons, I think that these applications still require a human-operator to be in the loop. But the biggest hurdle which is manually placing heavy panels is solved. ~~ ♻️ Join the weekly robotics newsletter, and never miss any news →

Storm Darrargh 𝐃𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐎𝐘𝐒 UKs Largest solar farm What an absolute joke that Ed Miliband and this insane government want us to depend on this alternative power. Having How much will these repairs add to our bills and where will the dispose of these non recyclable panels? How many more solar farms and wind turbines got ruined during the storms? The site at Llanbadrig, in the north of the island which is owned by French power firm EDF Energy and powers up to 9,500 households, now needs significant repairs. Elsewhere on the island of Anglesey, blades were sheared off a wind turbine which then reportedly caught fire.

Worlds largest battery - beatiful pumped storage. Last week I visited Anji in central China. Its home to Changlongshan pumped storage plant. Deep inside the mountains water is pumped 400 meters by solar and wind power from a lower to an upper reservoir. When the sun is not shining or the wind is not blowing or there is peak energy demand, energy from the hydro turbines is released into the grid. The plant is huge, but fit well into the terrain showing we can build big and respect nature all the same. It creates a seemless system of solar, wind and hydro 24 hours a day. This is the future of green energy!

CBC at COP30 puts out a pro China piece claiming they are doing so well for “climate” because they built solar panels. Ya, while operating over 1100 coal fired power plants & building more each month. And when those solar panels stop working? Landfill. The world has no other way to feed the economy so they came up with this scam. Just look at everyone running around in the background. This is all about money, nothing to do with the weather. What a con job.

Different face same rubbish. "Homegrown clean energy creates jobs," says the Energy Secretary. She’s correct … In CHINA! Once a wind or solar farm is built, it employs few people. The real jobs are in manufacturing the turbines, panels, batteries, inverters, cabling, concrete etc and processing and mining critical minerals. Which is why CHINA is having a jobs boom (Insert me weeping) China manufactures most of the world's solar panels, leads battery production and dominates the refining of critical minerals and its supply chain. So what she means is WE are subsidising CHINESE jobs! Then *sigh*, electricity is only 20% of Britain's total energy use. The other 80% is mostly made up of transport fuels, heating and industry. Importing more Chinese infrastructure doesn't make us energy secure. It makes China richer while she congratulates herself on creating jobs that mostly aren't here. *sob*

ELON: YOU COULD EASILY POWER THE ENTIRE US WITH SOLAR Elon: “You could actually power the entire United States with a 100 miles by 100 miles of solar.” Joe Rogan: “So you could just pick some dead spot that you fly over, cover that sucker up with solar panels, and charge the whole country, 24/7?” Elon: “Absolutely. We need batteries, but yes. It's not hard, meaning it's very feasible. The sun is converting over 4 million tons of mass to energy every second, and it's no maintenance. That thing just works.” Source: The Joe Rogan Experience, October 2023, Joe Rogan

🇨🇳 CHINA IS TURNING ITS DESERTS INTO GIANT SOLAR FACTORIES China is flattening massive chunks of desert to make room for solar panels. We’re talking enough to power entire cities. Why? Because they want clean energy and fewer oil and coal headaches. But here's the plot twist: these panels are also healing the desert. By blocking harsh sun and holding moisture, they’re helping grass grow back in places that were nothing but dust. So now China’s getting energy and land they might eventually use for farming or building whole towns on. Turns out saving the planet might come with bonus real estate. CNN’s Abby Phillip: [The Department of Energy said today] that they're ending wind and solar subsidies, taking more energy out of the system, not putting it into the system. So, yes, I mean, I'm not sure there's any problem solving happening.” Ben Ferguson: "If you look at windmills and you look at them in Texas and other states, they have been a disaster compared to what they were supposed to produce. They're not producing. So why would you invest in a BAD INVESTMENT. By the way, they’re doing this in Europe as well, the data is now there. The solar and wind isn't gonna fix our grid, and then if you're saying any more solar panels or wind turbines, we're totally screwed. We will have to go to 78 degrees.” Abby Phillip: “Here's the thing. I think that there is an argument to be made for all of the above energy, right?” Ben Ferguson: “But if it's ineffective and it doesn't work, why do it?”

California's $2.2 billion solar plant is shutting down. Once hailed as a breakthrough, the Ivanpah Solar Facility in the Mojave Desert is now a case study in failed technology and environmental risk. Built with $1.6 billion in federal loans in 2014, the plant was hailed as a symbol of America's clean energy future. It used 173,000 mirrors to focus sunlight onto three massive towers heating fluid to drive steam turbines. Complicated. Expensive. And it never delivered on its promise. After just 11 years, the technology is now obsolete. On top of that, the facility became notorious for its environmental toll, with estimates of at least 6,000 birds incinerated each year by the concentrated beams. The promise was affordable, reliable, green power. The reality was high costs, technical failures and ecological damage.

$You're looking at a drone shot of Byron, New York, where thousands of acres of solar panels have swallowed up a county that boasts the MOST amount of productive agricultural land in the entire state. This is only a portion of the panels that have been anchored into Byron for Excelsior Solar. With the newly announced Brusselville Solar on the ORES docket, this aerial view will only encompass a fraction of the total solar footprint. Those responsible for this must be held accountable. This video should be on NATIONAL news. We are going to lose our state and the land that feeds us very quickly if there is not immediate intervention. This is dystopian, anti-human, catastrophic to wildlife, a direct threat to our future food autonomy, and the largest land grab of our American lifetimes from generational landowners to foreign corporations. And it's all on purpose.$
