A woman has claimed that she was harassed while waiting for a cab on a roadside in Bengaluru, in an incident that has once again sparked concerns over women's safety in public spaces. According to the woman, a man, identified by the police as Vijay Ragav, riding a two-wheeler... approached her and allegedly abused her using obscene language while she was waiting for her cab in Ramamurthy Nagar. When she began recording on her mobile phone, the 42-year-old fruit seller accused fled the spot. The woman later shared the video on Instagram, identifying the vehicle's registration number and urging authorities to take action against the accused. "As a woman, I should be able to wait for my cab without being treated like an object or being propositioned for money. No one should have to experience this kind of harassment in a public place," she wrote. Describing the encounter, she said the man's words were "intimidating, disrespectful, and made me fear for my safety." "I am sharing this incident to raise awareness and request immediate action from the concerned authorities. Such behaviour cannot be normalised or ignored," she said, urging law enforcement to identify the accused and ensure accountability. The woman also appealed to bystanders not to remain silent in the face of harassment. "Every person deserves to feel safe in public spaces without being subjected to sexual harassment. Please speak up if you witness incidents like these. Silence only emboldens offenders. Public spaces must be safe and respectful for everyone," she added. Police said the accused submitted an FIR on February 21, alleging that the woman, along with a man identifying himself as Imran from a regional news outlet, demanded money and threatened to air defamatory content if he refused to pay. According to officials, the extortion complaint was lodged a day before the woman approached authorities accusing Dixon Sando and Nikhil of sexual assault. Officers are now probing both versions to establish the sequence of events. In his statement, the complainant said he has lived at his current address for nearly two decades and runs a second-hand car business in #Rajajinagar area. He also claimed to operate a leased villa in #Jakkur that is rented out for small events and parties. He told police that his friend Dixon had booked the villa from February 14 to 16 for a #ValentinesDay gathering. A security guard allegedly restrained a 22-year-old student using a wire around her neck and raped her on the terrace of a society in Jodhpur late on Saturday night. Anandnagar police said the accused, Dharm Singh, 27, a native of Uttar Pradesh's Hardoi district, was arrested from Hebatpur early on Sunday. He had been deployed at the society only six days ago. The woman, studying interior design in the city, was a paying guest in a flat in the society, and was on the terrace for a walk. The accused allegedly approached her with the intention of having sexual relations. When she refused, he allegedly assaulted her, restrained her with a wire around the neck and raped her. Police said the assault lasted nearly an hour. The wire prevented her from shouting for help. After he fled, taking her phone and locking her out on the terrace, she raised an alarm and was rescued by residents living on the floors below. She was taken to a hospital and police were informed. Sector 1 JCP Neeraj Badgujar said CCTV footage shows him taking the lift to the terrace around the time of the incident. Police said the accused had been deployed at the society for only about six days. He had worked for different security agencies for the past four years. DCP, Zone-7, Shivam Verma said while the woman's medical condition is stable, she is under severe trauma. "She has been in the city for around two years for studies," said Verma, adding that she tried to scream, but the accused had overpowered her and tried to strangle her with the wire. Police will next record her statement and probe if the guard knew of her routine. The security agency will also be questioned about his registration.

She had been homeless since, spending nights outside temples and on streets, surviving on food provided at the #SiddharoodhaMutt and other religious places. “The accused watched the woman roaming in the area and lured her offering money and food. Then they took her to an isolated place to gang-rape her. They also recorded videos and shared them on social media,” Shashi Kumar said. Shashi Kumar said that Shivanand and Ganesh were booked for the gang rape, while Pradeep has been accused of circulating the video on social media. While the locals assaulted Ganesh and Shivanand, a case was registered against the locals on Shivanand’s complaint. Four of the locals have been taken into custody. Shashi Kumar said he would hold discussions with the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal corporation commissioner and officials of the women and child welfare department to explore measures to provide the woman with shelter and support her. A 28-year-old woman was gang-raped in a moving van in #Faridabad for over two hours and then thrown on the road early on Tuesday. The incident occurred on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, when the married woman was waiting for a vehicle to go home at night. A van stopped and two young men lured her into the vehicle, promising to drop her home. The vehicle instead moved towards #Gurgaon Road. The woman was allegedly in the van for around two-and-a-half hours, where the accused continued to rape her. Despite protests, the accused did not stop and instead threatened her. Around 3 am, the woman was thrown out of the moving van near #RajaChowk in #SGMNagar. The woman suffered severe facial injuries and was bleeding profusely. The woman repeatedly called her sister, who was informed of the incident when she called back. Her family members then rushed to the spot and admitted the woman to the hospital in a critical condition. Doctors applied 10 to 12 stitches to her face. Though her condition is stable, the woman is in a state of shock. Her statement is yet to be recorded. The victim's sister said in her complaint that the woman had called her a day before the incident around 8.30 pm, informing that she had an argument with her mother and was going to her friend's house. She further informed her sister that she would return home in three hours. The woman is married, has three children, and lives separately from her husband due to a domestic dispute. Her family members then rushed to the spot and admitted the woman to the hospital in a critical condition. Doctors applied 10 to 12 stitches to her face. Though her condition is stable, the woman is in a state of shock. Her statement is yet to be recorded. The victim's sister said in her complaint that the woman had called her a day before the incident around 8.30 pm, informing that she had an argument with her mother and was going to her friend's house. She further informed her sister that she would return home in three hours. The woman is married, has three children, and lives separately from her husband due to a domestic dispute. Both the accused have been arrested and the van used by them has been recovered.

A 19-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her father during a counselling session in Uttar Pradesh's Banda district after she insisted on living with a man she had married against her family's wishes, police said. The shocking incident took place in the Badousa police station area on Thursday and has triggered widespread outrage across the district. According to police, the woman had been in a relationship with a young man from her neighbourhood. On May 18, she left home with him, prompting her family to file a complaint. A case was subsequently registered and police launched a search operation to trace her. Banda Superintendent of Police Palash Bansal said the woman was found safe on June 12 and brought back as part of the legal process. Her parents were informed and were called for discussions and counselling with police officials. During the interaction, the woman reportedly maintained that she wanted to stay with her husband. Police said she had married the man after leaving home and was unwilling to return to her family despite repeated attempts by relatives and officials to persuade her otherwise. According to investigators, tensions escalated during the counselling session when her father suddenly attacked her with a sharp-edged weapon, stabbing her in the abdomen. The injured woman was rushed to the Atarra Community Health Centre and later referred to a medical college for advanced treatment. However, doctors declared her dead. SP Bansal said that based on a complaint lodged by the victim's mother, police registered a murder case against the woman's father. The accused has been taken into custody and the weapon used in the crime has been recovered. "The woman had been safely recovered and her family was informed. During counselling and discussions with her parents, her father attacked her with a sharp weapon. A case has been registered and the accused has been detained. Further legal proceedings are underway," the SP said. Police have sent the body for post-mortem examination and initiated further investigation into the case. The incident has drawn attention across Banda, with many describing it as a suspected case of honour killing.
