It is very clear that we are poorly served by a growing class of arrogant and out of touch politicians, and Bowen is their mascot. Our politicians forget themselves. They forget that we don’t answer to them - They answer to us. They don’t pay us - We pay them. Chris Bowen has broken just about every promise that he has made. Industry is furious, electricity users are furious, and now motorists are furious. They promised that power bills would come down. Instead, power bills have gone up, while at the same time industry continues its exodus. The government is propping up a select few corporations with tax dollars and even taking over some directly. That is not the sign of a healthy energy market, or sustainable industry. It is not the sign of success that Bowen needs to maintain a modicum of credibility. So, Liam Bartlett calls him out, asks him real questions that cut to the viability of Bowen’s solutions to our real energy problems. But instead of answering Bartlett’s questions, the Minister responsible for the broken promises chooses instead to attack the journalist. Liam Bartlett is finally asking the questions that need to be asked. He is not just smiling and curtseying to the press corps - he is doing his job. Bowen shows us the answers, not by the words he says, but what he doesn’t say. It begs further questions. For me they are; Who does Bowen think he is? Followed closely by, who does he think he answers to? The answers are as obvious as the lack of answers he provides about our energy future. If it wasn’t so important, it wouldn’t really matter. But on a large and isolated continent like Australia, energy security is our life blood. Without an abundance of cheap and reliable energy, we will starve. Bowen might think his primary role is curating the swooning reporters he likes, but we all know that it is not his job. He answers to us. If he finds the questions uncomfortable, too bad. If the press required him to explain the truth of the storm we are really in - a storm that has been brewing for decades and is now spiraling out of control in front of us - then so be it. We can’t fix what we can’t see. Bowen must level with us. If he can’t fix the problems, get out of the way for somebody who can. Bowen should sit down with Liam Bartlett, and respectfully answer his questions. The people of Australia deserve nothing less. I just want Australia back.

Over the past 25 years, I have taken up numerous causes as a journalist for the sake of the common citizens of India, particularly in Kashmir. Throughout my career, I have paid a heavy price for speaking truth to power, including during my 2019 testimony at the US Congress. .James Talarico: What we're requesting is every internal memo, every email, every document, every text message concerning the Hoffman case. And if there's nothing to hide, then the Attorney General should feel comfortable releasing this information. But I think it's suspicious when we request this information and it's denied. Especially on a case where so many Texans have legitimate concerns, legitimate questions, and it's something that we're seeing nationally. So many people are deeply disturbed by the Epstein case, rightfully so. And then to see it repeated here in Texas in our own backyard. I mean, it should be alarming to all Texans regardless of our political party.

In UK Parliament, cabinet ministers ask Scottish MPs to repeat their questions, sometimes more than once, when they struggle with strong Scottish accents. No one considers this disrespectful, it is a normal courtesy. Majlis exists to ensure ministers respond to questions from citizens, who are represented by their MPs. Dismissing a question by claiming not to understand it is unacceptable. The appropriate response would have been to politely ask Sobe to repeat the question more slowly, or to request that it be asked in official Dhivehi if necessary. Neither was done. Language must never be used as an excuse in Majlis to dodge legitimate questions.

The Free Speech Union is taking an interest in the story of Jason Arday for a number of reasons. First, we want to know who paid for the threatening letter from the law firm Carter-Ruck — effectively a SLAPP — that was sent to Times Higher Education in an attempt to get journalist Jack Grove to stop asking Professor Arday questions about his academic record. Was it Jason Arday himself? The University of Cambridge? Or the Good Law Project? Second, we want to know who reported both the academic and former professor David Harris and Times Higher Education journalist Jack Grove to the police, alleging harassment after they began asking Arday questions about his academic and extracurricular record. In David Harris’s case, the Metropolitan Police referred the complaint to Devon and Cornwall Police, which rightly decided there was nothing to investigate. But in Jack Grove’s case, he was contacted by the police and informed that he had been the subject of a four-month investigation by the Met. While officers said they would be taking no further action, he was told he should refrain from questioning Jason Arday again because it was also affecting Arday’s mental health. The police should never be telling journalists whom they can and cannot question — particularly when there are legitimate questions that need answering. Powerful people should not be able to use the police to silence journalists and academics who are simply asking questions and doing their jobs. The Free Speech Union has written to Sir Mark Rowley, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, to ask what on earth his officers were playing at. He has yet to reply.
