Absolutely spot on from Andrew Neil. This really is as good as it gets for Andy Burnham, as things are about to get much more painful for the British people. Under Labour, we already have higher inflation, borrowing, debt, unemployment, energy bills and taxes. The country can’t take much...

@afneil Totally agree it’s bad and will get worse! unfortunately those who voted for this government will be treated to a dose of reality. No party can do much to improve the situation however with a skilled person implementing damage control we might get through but Andy isn’t it.

@afneil If you're working particularly in private sector, if you have worked and created any wealth Labour are going to steal it all. Dark times indeed.

@afneil It’s a reminder to the younger voters that didn’t live through the last Labour government, Labour are rubbish with taxpayers money. They are Champagne socialists.

@afneil I wouldn’t mind bad news in terms of tax rises if the fiscal policies were moving the country in the right direction, but it isn’t. We’re going backwards because we have welfare governments across the Uk, weak on every front . Rock on a GE, pity it’s 2 years off

@afneil The country gets enough in tax revenue from the British people. The problem isn't the tax money coming in. The financial problems are caused by the people in charge of the public purse. Stop giving our money away Stop wasting it on projects that have no benefit to Britain Easy

Andrew Neil just delivered a BRUTAL reality check to Andy Burnham after that highly praised conference speech. The praise has been wildly over the top. Some commentators parked their critical thinking because it suited their biases. Thankfully, as usual, Andrew Neil is not one of them. On the latest The Andrew Neil Report, he pointed out what Burnham left out of all those lavish plans. The glaring omission: tax rises are coming. As Neil put it: “It’s quite the socialist manifesto.” Higher taxes are inevitable. “In place of markets, privatisation, competition, Mr Burnham wants more state ownership, more state control, much bigger government and higher taxes. Of course he didn’t say higher taxes. Well, he wouldn’t, would he? But if you’re going to have bigger government and more state control and ownership, then there will have to be higher taxes. One follows the other.” Prepare yourselves. He’s coming for your money to fund his socialist utopia. Neil also noted that all the big-ticket items were for later. Next parliament. Next manifesto. Almost nothing for the here and now. Nothing serious on defence or foreign policy. “He glossed over. Barely gave it the time of day.” Nothing on the imminent “tough” winter or the fuel crisis. Rising inflation. Rising interest rates. Rising youth unemployment. Rising costs of government borrowing. Nothing. He finished with this warning: “Mr Burnham deserves his day in the sun. He should enjoy it, because it’s all about to get much darker, much more difficult. Reality is about to strike this winter. His 10-year plan is likely to be unravelling before spring has sprung.” Puts a slightly different spin on things, doesn’t it 😂
