I just built my second brain with Hermes Agent. It remembers people, companies, projects, and decisions. It pulls from meeting notes, docs, anything I feed it, and cites the source every time. It's this repo called Gbrain, open-sourced by Y Combinator president Garry Tan. install it by pasting this into Hermes: "Install Gbrain following the instructions at Set up the embedding provider, then run gbrain init and gbrain doctor to verify." Add the MCP server so Hermes can call it directly: "Add the Gbrain MCP server and reload." The graph builds itself. Pattern matching on the people and companies already in your notes. 31 points more precise than plain vector search, by their own benchmark. Finally, a proper chat UI for Hermes Agent (open-source)! Hermes ships an official dashboard, but it's primarily built for management, and its chat is just a terminal piped into a browser tab. Hermes Web UI is an open-source chat-first alternative. It's self-hosted and points at your existing ~/.hermes state, so there's nothing new to configure. - It's a native web chat, not a terminal in a tab - Sessions group by date with a context ring - Kanban renders the agent's task board - Spaces manages your workspaces - Skills panel lists the full catalog - Tasks panel shows cron jobs - Insights show usage and activity - Memory shows MEMORY and SOUL files - Logs tails the agent, gateway, and error logs The whole setup runs 100% locally, binds to localhost by default, and you reach it over an SSH tunnel or Tailscale from your phone. I have shared the Hermes Web UI GitHub repo in the replies. Do note that it's a community project, not official, so expect occasional rough edges (concurrent profile runs are blocked for now). MASSIVE Hermes Agent update over the last few days Totally changes the way I use Hermes Here's 6 new features you need to start using immediately (video demoing them below): 1. Mixture of agents: send your prompt to a team of different models. The team sends back all of their responses to an orchestrator model who synthesizes a final answer. Gives much better results than just sending a prompt to 1 model 2. /learn: use the new built in /learn skill to have Hermes automatically create new skills. You can either give a prompt after /learn or put in a URL. I like pasting in URLs of tweets with helpful tips after /learn and Hermes will automatically turn it into a skill 3. /journey: See every skill and memory Hermes has created for you on a really nice timeline/chart. Great for seeing how your agent has learned and improved over time 4. Self improvement cost savings: Hermes now uses cheaper models to do it's self improvement including memory creation and skill creation. These types of activities happen in the background of almost every prompt, so this results in TONS of cost savings over time 5. Vibe coding improvements: Hermes desktop is now a full vibe coding tool. You can see diffs, make commits, and even open up PRs directly from the desktop interface. Makes it WAYYY nicer to vibe code with 6. Fable 5 is now built in. Fable 5. Obviously Fable is incredibly expensive, so only use this new profile for incredibly complex tasks. I love Hermes Agent and Gemini Live is also one of my for voice conversation, so over the weekend I built a small vibe-coding project that brings the two together called IRIS. The idea is simple: Gemini Live becomes the conversational interface, while Hermes Agent handles execution, automation, and long-running tasks behind the scenes. I can talk to Gemini naturally, and whenever something needs real work, Gemini formulates the request and hands it off to Hermes. The best part is that the conversation never stops. Gemini keeps talking with me naturally while Hermes works in the background. When Hermes finishes, Gemini proactively tells me the results are ready, switches context to the Hermes output, helps me review it, and then we return to our normal conversation. That manager/worker flow feels really good. Because I wanted the app to be as hands-free as possible, I also added a camera-based gesture layer using MediaPipe Gesture Recognizer. I can point at Hermes task cards, open details, scroll through results with my hand, and close them using gestures. Small weekend project, but I had a lot of fun building it. Also, the anti-flicker macOS app I vibe-coded yesterday ended up being incredibly useful for this project. It fixed my webcam flickering issue, so I can finally record videos properly. 🙂
