This is easily a hundred times harder… maybe a thousand.” Burt Rutan’s SpaceShipOne reached the edge of space twice without scorching the paint. Returning from true orbit requires intense heat shielding or the vehicle is destroyed. That single energy gap is why orbital reusability remains the hardest engineering problem in rocketry and why Starship’s thermal protection system is non-negotiable.
