One of the reasons William Friedkin made "To Live and Die in LA" (1985) was to surpass the car chase he filmed in "The French Connection" (1971). He wanted the chase to be the centerpiece of the movie. Robby Müller shot most of the movie, but he told Friedkin that he didn't feel confident enough shooting the chase scene. Friedkin replaced him with Robert Yeoman, one of the camera operators. Friedkin believed Yeoman was the right choice as he was "too young and inexperienced to be afraid of the challenge." Yeoman later said, "Friedkin gave me a big break and I would be forever indebted to him. Shooting the chase scene sort of prepared me for anything. I always said 'After that, anything would be easy'". P.S: Remembering the legendary American filmmaker, William Friedkin on his 90th birthday!
