Professor Eric Dyson in a new video shares that Jay Z contacted him & VIGOROUSLY disagreed with him about his criticism of the way Kendrick Lamar tried to strip Drake of his Blackness during the beef as well as the pedophilia accusations that were made against Drake. Dyson argued that Drake, as a biracial artist from the Black diaspora, is undeniably part of Black culture & that reducing Blackness to a narrow definition ignores the global scope of the Black experience. He added that while Kendrick Lamar is a brilliant lyricist, the attempt to question Drake’s authenticity reflects a problematic tendency to police who is allowed to belong in the culture. Shawn Carter, better known as Jay Z disagrees with Professor Eric Dyson’s take.

Akademiks reacts to Dr. Michael Eric Dyson revealing that Jay Z confronted him because he disagreed with the narratives that Kendrick was trying to push on Drake during their beef. Ak believes Jay & Drake really stopped being cool with each other after Drake didn’t sign with Tidal and went with Apple instead, and Charged Up is really more of a diss to Jay instead of Meek.

Professor Michael Eric Dyson foolishly compared Kendrick Lamar to Trump because Kendrick’s assertion that Drake is “Not Like Us”. JAY-Z texted him, because that’s what they do, & made him understand that the comparison was faulty because Kendrick is a RAPPER who picked at the vulnerabilities & insecurities of his opponent in a RAP BATTLE… while Donald Trump is the literal PRESIDENT & a much more “sinister force”.

Professor Eric Dyson just posted a video apologizing to Jay Z for mentioning their private conversation. He clarifies that it wasn’t a call but a text, & that the disagreement was over the professor comparing Kendrick Lamar to Trump—Jay Z said it wasn’t that serious. However, the professor walked back his earlier statement, claiming Jay Z didn’t “vigorously” or “aggressively” disagree with him, even though those were his exact words in the first video he posted about their exchange. 🧐

Professor Eric Dyson continues to defend Drake’s blackness on Stephen A Smith ‘s show- calls out Kendrick Lamar as well as others who called Drake a colonizer & a culture vulture. He says “I’m pissed that Drake gets dismissed, off the scene, when he’s been Drake for 15 years & you act like you didn’t know that, now he’s not really black?” He continues “Drake is a brilliant rapper, what he’s done to expand the horizon of Hip-Hop is underestimated, even artistically […] We have to stop this narrow, punishing, pernicious, limited viewpoint about blackness”. Dr. Michael Eric Dyson is taking the Kendrick vs Drake beef way too literal. Dot Knows Drake is Black. It was strategy. It was hyperbole. It was an angle that he selected based on a weakness & Drake walked into the Trap with his bar about Freeing slaves.

🚨 Mal says Drake and Jay-Z are NOT beefing Mal pushed back on claims Drake’s relationship with Jay-Z stopped him from attending the Yankee Stadium shows, saying Drake may have disagreed with Jay backing Kendrick’s Super Bowl performance, but that doesn’t make it a beef. He also argued Drake’s “the jig is up” line wasn’t really a shot at Jay-Z, saying it felt more like “regular rap” than a true diss. Mal added there’s “not a world” where Drake would be upset if he went to see Jay perform. Via Rory & Mal

DJ Akademiks explains why he thinks Jay-Z would be an easier rap battle opponent for Drake than Kendrick Lamar was, saying Drake would have more material to work with due to Jay-Z's highly public life 👀 "I do actually think that Jay-Z is an easier matchup for Drake than Kendrick was. I think Kendrick has lived a private personal life... He's not Jay-Z, who, yes, Jay-Z is kind of like, 'For the culture.' But I could list off 30 things now where he's a hypocrite."

Glasses Malone said that, Drake should never put Kendrick Lamar on the biggest platform to battle with him. Glasses Malone proceeds to say, “if birdaman was in drake’s corner, he would say no; and if jay z was in drake’s corner, he would say no”. I kind of agree with glasses Malone here; Drake had nothing to gain from this battle. He was the number one artist anyway, so that only would benefit Kendrick. And by the way, this was right when people were basically claiming that, Kendrick’s “mr. Morale & the big steppers” album was a decline. And I have to add the fact that, most mainstream hiphop media was siding with Kendrick Lamar, so Drake was definitely in no position of winning, regardless of how good he would rap during the battle.

🚨 DJ Akademiks Questions Pharrell’s “JAY-Z Is Ready For War” Comments At Yankee Stadium 👀 DJ Akademiks reacted after Pharrell hyped up JAY-Z during his recent Yankee Stadium appearance, telling the crowd that “they poked the bear,” and suggesting JAY-Z has put on his “helmet” and is getting ready for war. Akademiks questioned who Pharrell could have been referring to, arguing that JAY-Z is no longer competing in today’s rap landscape. 🗣️ DJ Akademiks: • “War with who?” • “JAY-Z is a legendary artist, but he’s not a current artist competing with today’s rappers.” • “Unless he’s competing with people from his own era… who is he going to war against?” ➡️ Akademiks said he doesn’t believe JAY-Z could realistically battle any of today’s top artists, comparing the idea to Shaquille O’Neal trying to return to the Celtics and make another championship run. 🗣️ “He had his time. It was great. But it’s over. There’s nothing wrong with being a legacy act.” ➡️ When viewers mentioned Drake, Akademiks dismissed the idea entirely, arguing that Drake surpassed JAY-Z on all levels musically and commercially years ago and that the two are no longer competing in the same space. 🗣️ “Drake beat JAY-Z in all the metrics almost 10 years ago. Drake is fighting a completely different race.” ➡️ Akademiks added that while he expects JAY-Z could still release new music, he believes Pharrell’s comments about going to “war” don’t make sense if they’re referring to competing with today’s biggest rap stars. 👀 Who do you think Pharrell was talking about when he said JAY-Z is getting ready for “war”?

Joe Budden tells DJ Akademiks that he sees what he’s been trying to do, putting his name in the middle of the Jay-Z and Drake situation. Budden says he’s been saying Drake should leave Jay-Z alone, and Drake’s fans were saying no, he shouldn’t. Now Joe Budden has switched up, and Akademiks is asking him why he suddenly wants Drake to battle Jay-Z. He also says a Jay-Z vs. Drake battle isn’t the same as Kendrick vs. Game, because Game is from the West Coast. That battle could turn dangerous given West Coast gang dynamics and the history between those two, while a Jay-Z vs. Drake battle would just be a battle, with no real-world stakes attached.
