n the early 2000s, I built a TV studio in my living room in Los Angeles and started inviting friends and people I admired — comedians, actors, TV personalities — to come hang out and do a “talk show.” Podcasting didn’t exist yet, so no one really knew what I was talking about. They were basically just coming over to see what I was up to. One night I invited Carson Daly, who had always been great to me back in my MTV days. What he didn’t know was that I’d also invited my friend Andrew Dice Clay. The result was a completely ridiculous two-hour show that just went on and on. This is the first time they ever met.

Me and my mates caused this: We turned up at their wedding uninvited and started fighting with the guests and they had the cheek to tell us to leave because we were ruining their wedding when it was only a few of us and not everyone. Then they tried to lock the doors. But we held them open while more came in. We didn’t like the music either so we made the DJ to swerve the Motown and play some techno to suit us. It was an all inclusive bar and a free buffet so we stayed to the end even though we didn’t like it there. I just wanted to call the family out and tell you all how intolerant they were to us. I’ve never been made to feel so unwelcome. We had just as much of a right to be there as anyone else. It was a public building. They don’t own it. I’m sure you will all agree that the family were bang out of order. We only ruined their wedding the crying cnts. Horrible people.

Just listen to this interview from 2014. Forget the fact that El-Rufai was boasting here to defeat Jonathan because they were already sure of backing from the US State Department. Actually, let’s not put the U.S. State Department aside, because that’s actually the main problem here. The problem has never been about a responsible leadership or otherwise, it’s always about what the U.S. wants. If you changed the date of this interview to 2026 and replaced Jonathan with Tinubu, it would still be relevant. So at what point do we begin to trace this problem to its root cause? Because I’m very sure that if we don’t address this problem of foreign government interference, 10 years from now, this interview would still be relevant, no matter who the president is. At what point do we understand that for Nigeria to work, it has to be a leadership the people of Nigeria themselves choose, not one decided by Washington or Paris? At what point do we start ejecting leaders we didn’t choose ourselves and stop waiting for Amereka? At what point do we agree for an internal revolution to protect the candidates that we choose and not relying on the foreign controlled and corrupt Nigeria system? At what point to we say enough is enough to the scam that is electoral democracy? Just asking.

All love to my brothers fredtaylor & Channing not Crowder. I appreciate their words and sincerity. It’s no longer a secret that my contract with ESPN has expired. Heck, I’m the reason it’s no longer a secret. I’m so grateful for the decade of work they allowed me to do on the world’s greatest sports platform. I know I had to represent in a way that reflected well on them, my community, my family, & myself. That’s all I’ve worked to do. I’ve busted my tail since getting the job because I wanted to be the best! Maybe I’m not there, but I’m dang close. Now, I’m just hoping that going forward that effort is valued! I love sparring with legislators, and this exchange is no different. Rep. Parkinson missed the mark by disregarding my story, insinuating I’m being used, and reducing my experience and involvement to the color of my skin. This is what I experienced firsthand: I struggled and begged my mother not to send me to the school I was zoned for. School choice saved my life, and regardless of what the naysayers come up with, I will continue to fight to make sure my voice is heard. I look forward to our next conversation, Rep. Parkinson. I’m not going anywhere!

That’s something we’ve been looking to share with New Yorkers: your participation in democracy extends beyond Election Day. We want to not only win with New Yorkers, but also govern with New Yorkers. And that will mean infusing city government with a different kind of outlook and changing what we even think of as public engagement — really making sure that I’m not seen as a movement in and of myself, but as a messenger of a movement that continues to grow across the five boroughs of the city.
