University professor calls Muslim student a "terrorist" repeatedly during lecture Dr. Muralidhar Deshpande, a professor of PES University in Bangalore, called Muslim student Affan a "terrorist" at least 13 times during a lecture and abused him verbally. Some of the comments he made: "Iran war happened because of people like you" "Trump will take you away" "You are idiots, you will go to hell" These derogatory comments were made in front of about 60 students, creating an extremely hostile and humiliating environment. I’m now receiving calls from their parents who are frightened to learn that Hamas supporters are being allowed to camp out in Harvard Yard - in brazen defiance to the university’s explicit guidelines - and are chanting in support of terrorism and call for the murder of Jews. The last two nights at the Harvard Chabad Seder table, along with Jews around the world, we read the words of the Passover Haggadah how “in each and every generation they rise up against us to destroy us. And the Holy One, blessed be He, rescues us from their hands.” That those who seek the destruction of the Jewish people are receiving support from Harvard students and other university students around the country - as we heard today from Hamas, should shake every moral person to their core. It was a real honour to deliver the Inaugural Lecture for Nursing at Queen’s University last week. I spoke about my journey from the ward to Westminster, and how the same qualities that serve you well as a nurse are just as essential in politics: empathy, courage, belief, resilience, and a deep understanding of people. My sincere thanks to Queen’s University for organising a fantastic evening, and to all who attended. A special thank you to the Permanent Secretary for Health Mike Farrar, Professor Kenda Crozier, Head of School, Professor Rita Devlin, Professor Michael Brown, Professor Martin Bradley, and many others for being there. It was wonderful to see so many colleagues and friends.
