@CISOZ has developed a factual explainer about why the plan can't actually be relied upon. Because the model assumes perfect foresight of the weather and requires just-in-time delivery of gigawatts of gas capacity to keep the lights on.

A royal commission is need into all aspects of Australia’s energy’s need. Facts not propaganda. Ask for proof of all costs and timelines related to all energy sources. Australia first, not political agendas. Show some backbone and demand a royal commission.

Coal prices have risen internationally but Ukraine had nothing to do with #energy prices rising in Australia. Investment in #solar and #wind is to blame. It is important that the government in this country start facing reality and stop hiding the problem. The #Ukraine has nothing to do with #coal prices in this country. In fact, Australian coal prices did not rise at all under their existing long term contracts for our #coal-fired power stations. The government must stop misleading parliament that rising electricity prices in Australia are due to a war in the Ukraine. This year, renewables and storage covered 100% of Texas’ demand growth. Through July, ERCOT consumption rose ~17 terawatt-hours compared to last year. And nearly all of that incremental demand was met by clean generation. Through July of this year: ⚡ Solar is up ~47% year, adding 12 TWh ⚡ Wind added 3 TWh ⚡ Storage tripled to 3 TWh Gas still provides a large share of ERCOT’s power and remains an important part of the grid. But the growth in demand this year, the extra electricity Texans are using, has been supplied almost entirely by renewables and storage. That extra supply matters for affordability. Prices are rising due to higher fuel and transmission & distribution costs, but renewables and storage are holding them down compared to where they would be otherwise. The facts are that the world is using more energy and The use of fossil fuels not only continues to increase, but fossil fuel use is increasing faster than the increase in renewables. To claim that "renewables" will overtake coal sometime this year, is a prediction about a future event, but it has as much chance as being true as Bowen’s predictions that electricity prices would be $275 lower. Last year coal provided almost 46,000 TWh of electricity - and with China going gang-busters building new fired power stations, that number will only increase. By comparison solar and wind combined 11,400 TWh

Wind forecasts for 2030 have been slashed from 42.6 GW to 26 GW, with offshore wind now admitted to cost 40% more and deliver far less power. Transmission, the backbone of Net Zero, has been slashed from 10,000 km to 6,000 km after cancellations and cost blowouts of up to 100%. Batteries will never store enough energy to backup renewables. In Estimates I tried to get a straight answer on just how long the life of a battery is. Needless to say I couldn’t get one. They can currently (in optimal conditions) provide a small amount of energy for 2 to 4 hours. This of course isn’t long enough if the entire grid is to be powered by renewables. Longer term storage has to be provided by pumped hydro which requires the construction of enormous pumping stations powered by wind and solar. As shown by the Snowy Pumped Hydro, pumped hydro is not only ludicrously expensive, it is incredibly destructive to the environment. When pressed on just how much battery technology has improved, Matt Kean couldn’t give a straight answer. The fact is the cost of building enough batteries to back up the energy grid run by renewables is prohibitive and will never work. #auspol

Decent effort by Severin Carrell. But Swinney’s answer is his standard bullshit. To ask this question effectively he *must* be pressed on the fact (and it is a fact) that costs of the latest generation of Scottish renewables are *higher* than the price of electricity set by gas.

Clare O’Neil has to be kidding. Australia’s renewable obsession leaves us exposed to global shocks despite our world-class coal & uranium reserves. Even CSIRO’s own GenCost data now shows black coal is the cheapest form of electricity right now. We still rely on coal and gas for most reliable power. Renewables need massive storage & backups. Time to use our domestic abundance for secure, affordable energy, not self-sabotage.

It is high time Greater Chennai Corporation powers its street lights with solar energy, especially during such emergency blackouts, cyclones and other natural disasters. GCC maintains around 3.01 lakh street lights in the city now. Engineers say that there are street lights with individual panels on which light energy is converted to electricity to power the lights. This will also reduce electricity bills in the long run. It can be alternated with the usual power supply too. What do you all think? #Solar #Chennai TANGEDCO Official
