Plant cell structure is always hexagonal. So, it appears to be the remains of a giant tree.

1/2: Stuðlagil Canyon (Egilsstadir/Iceland) 3/4: "Giant's Causeway" (Antrim/N-Ireland) Interlocking basalt columns that look more like giant fossilized plant cells than a volcanic eruption. Indeed hard to believe that these are "naturally grown" rock formations. 🧐🤔

@realHeyoWhatUp Hexagons are surprisingly common in nature. From plant cells to honeycombs to snow flakes to the boney plates on tortoise shells… Basalt, while not a crystal itself, can form crystalline structures when the lava cools at the correct rate.

Petrified giant trees

I know most people would say a petrified something, but imagine the size of this tree or whatever it was. I don't think we have anything matching that scale today.
