Tesla FSD 13.2 vs Waymo! I had FSD and Waymo do the same drive — same start point, same end point. Both arrived with 0 interventions but the Tesla had fewer awkward moments and arrived in 15m40s while the Waymo took 43 minutes — nearly 3x longer.

Here’s a great comparison between how Tesla Tesla Robotaxi handles the arrival at Terry Black’s BBQ restaurant and Waymo car (see link below thanks Herbert Ong & Chuck Cook ) attempting the same thing but with different results. Bottom line: the Tesla completed the task in a very natural, human-like way while the Waymo abandons the attempt and drops off the passengers at a busy intersection. Which would you want to ride in?

Former head of Tesla AI Andrej Karpathy: "I personally think Tesla is ahead of Waymo. I know it doesn't look like that, but I'm still very bullish on Tesla and its self-driving program. Tesla has a software problem and Waymo has a hardware problem. Software problems are much easier; The latest (Tesla) builds, they've made really good improvements. I'm really impressed with what the team is doing. Waymo looks like it's winning right now, but I think when we look in 10 years and who's actually at scale and where most of the revenue is coming from, I still think they're (Tesla) ahead." Day 3. Finished 5 Tesla Robotaxi rides, 4 Waymo rides, and 1 Uber ride. (See 39-minute edited video below.) Uber is in a tough situation. Classic innovators dilemma. Autonomous ride-hailing clearly is the future, but if Uber invites Waymo then that's working against their human drivers which will hurt Uber's recruiting ability (which they need to keep density especially in suburban areas). But if they don't welcome Waymo, then Uber is toast because people want cheaper/autonomous ride-hailing. Also, if Uber welcomes Waymo and Waymo cars increase then Waymo can just bypass Uber with their own Waymo app. Uber's only "hope" would be if multiple autonomous driving companies come online soon and Uber becomes the ride-hailing marketplace for them. But I think this is unlikely. Autonomous driving is just a really hard problem to solve, and with data and network effects. I think it's a winner-takes-most market. We'll see. But the more I take Tesla's Robotaxi, the more I think it's smoother and better than Waymo. And the more I take Waymo, the more I get pessimistic about Uber's long-term future.

After giving Tesla Robotaxi rides to Joseph and Alice Keating, they tried out a few Waymo rides to compare. Here are a few of their observations: “We decided to try a Waymo while we were there as well. We were able to take two trips. The first ride wasn’t bad, pretty similar to robotaxi. The second ride almost hit a pedestrian in one instance and parked cars while making a left turn on a neighborhood street. It had to slam on the breaks both times. Also it took a left turn through a yellow light at the last second before red. During our conversation we talked about whether you could get into the driver seat of Waymo. I took this video walking around the car. It shows that door handle recessed vs the others are popped out, so no way to get in. While we enjoyed both services, we thought the robotaxi was a smoother more confident ride. Robotaxi does need some improvements but we know they will come in due time.” This is a great review & comparison and I hope you found this helpful!

After waiting over an hour for a ride Tesla Tesla Robotaxi support tells me to go home.. 😣😭 They said that they don’t show any Robotaxis in Dallas. The rep went to get confirmation and they said they see the post from Ashok Elluswamy and Robotaxi but can confirm there is nothing showing in Dallas on their side…..go home. Robotaxi is not live in Dallas. Who do I believe? What do I do? Here’s the call …. This stuff is why people get frustrated with Tesla
