The Indian Express The Indian Express report on the Election Commission Election Commission of India has been fact-checked by the ECI itself. While the report highlighted 14 objections over 10 months, the Commission said focusing on selected internal notes while ignoring its larger body of decisions, reforms and nearly 40 new initiatives presents only “one part of the picture.” The ECI further stated that its decisions over the past year were taken unanimously by the Full Commission. So when a report fits perfectly into the Opposition’s attack on the ECI, but leaves out the Commission’s larger response, should we call it journalism or selective narrative?

Two out of three Election Commissioners reportedly raised formal objections at least 14 times over decisions and actions being taken without their knowledge or approval. According to The Indian Express investigation, concerns were raised over changes to Form 6, increasing centralisation of the voter database, restricted access for statutory election officers, appeals filed in West Bengal, and software failures that kept eligible voters off the final roll in Goa. The matter became serious enough for both Election Commissioners to separately approach the Cabinet Secretary over changes affecting oversight of the EC’s IT system. The very next day, they jointly set aside that work-allocation order. The Election Commission says its final decisions were unanimous. But when two out of three Commissioners repeatedly question how decisions are being taken in the Commission’s name, the issue is no longer just internal disagreement. It becomes a question of accountability inside the institution that decides who gets to remain on India’s voter rolls.

VIDEO | On the EC-SIR row, senior advocate Prashant Bhushan says, “The revelation made today is extremely serious. It shows that the Election Commission has become the fiefdom of one person, Gyanesh Kumar. There are three Election Commissioners, and the other two have repeatedly raised objections to decisions of the Election Commission. Yet Gyanesh Kumar continues to do what he wants and ignores the other two Election Commissioners. An even more serious aspect of this revelation is that Gyanesh Kumar has centralised the entire IT system of the Election Commission to such an extent that all decisions are being taken centrally by the Election Commission in Delhi, including whose name should be added to the electoral roll, whose name should not be added and whose name should be deleted... This is such a serious matter that Gyanesh Kumar should not merely be removed from office; he should also be prosecuted. This is what needs to be done in this country.”

VIDEO | Anantnag: DPAP chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad on the Election Commission row, says, "For the past few years, questions have been raised and fingers have been pointed at the Election Commission regarding elections. But political parties were not getting evidence. This time, the two Election Commissioners have themselves said that they raised questions with the Chief Election Commissioner more than a dozen times, asking whether something was being done wrong. But the Chief Election Commissioner did not accept their concerns and acted according to his own will. So now the question arises whether the elections held after names were deleted should stand or be held again. Therefore, the Opposition's demand is not wrong. If two of the three Election Commissioners are saying this, people should trust them and action should be taken." (Full video available on PTI Videos -

#WATCH | Delhi | BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad says, "Based on a media report in one newspaper, the way the opposition parties, especially Congress and particularly Rahul Gandhi, are making baseless and shameful allegations against the Election Commission is extremely unfortunate. We condemn this... Today, the Election Commission has issued a detailed press note. In the meeting that took place today, all three commissioners of the Election Commission were present together, which is part of this news report. It states that all the decisions regarding SIR were taken with the consensus of the Chief Election Commissioner and both Election Commissioners of the Election Commission. The second point mentioned is that it was launched in all states on 24.06.2025. It started first in Bihar, followed by actions in West Bengal and 30 other states. The Election Commission has specifically noted that on 27 May 2026, the Supreme Court deemed the entire SIR process to be appropriate... Who went to the Supreme Court to challenge the entire SIR process? The Congress party did, CPI(M) did, and TMC filed dozens of cases... Mamata Banerjee's government was completely wiped out there (in West Bengal). The Congress in Kerala considered this SIR to be right, saying it was because of it that they won... The first question to Rahul Gandhi is: why did you lie?..."

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra today said that the Express Investigation about three election commissioners sharing differing views during official deliberations show it is functioning in a democratic manner and claimed it demolishes the opposition parties’ allegation that the poll panel is “dictatorial”. “If there is no communication and exchange of views among the election commissioners who conduct polls, the opposition parties would allege ‘dictatorship’ and call them ‘yes men’ of the government,” he charged. The BJP leader said that the Election Commission’s statement issued on the issue shows that neither the poll panel nor any other constitutional body in India is under a “dictatorial rule”. “All opposition parties, who have been calling the EC and the government dictatorial, have fallen into their own trap today,” Patra added.

Voters are worried about the strange goings on in the Election Commission of India through the four phases of voting. First, the Election Commission takes 10-11 days to bring out the final figure of voting and then the difference between real time data and final figure turns out to be 1.7 crore votes. This is truly unprecedented. Unanswered questions about the missing EVMs are also very worrying. My statement :

ITBP is a force tasked primarily with guarding India’s borders. Why is a border-guarding force being deployed to handle protesters in the heart of Delhi? Today, I went to Jantar Mantar to cover a protest by AISA and other organisations demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The protest comes amid serious allegations and fresh reports concerning the Election Commission’s handling of SIR and electoral rolls. The Indian Express has reported that the two other Election Commissioners raised objections on several SIR-related decisions. ( indian express ) But what struck me at Jantar Mantar was seeing ITBP personnel deployed to manage a civilian protest.

The Election Commission has nothing to do with the government. Election Commissioners should not be going to the Cabinet Secretary. But they have already done so, which suggests that the Commissioners who went there believe that the decisions are being made from the Cabinet Secretary’s office or the Prime Minister’s Office. This is an alarming situation, said Parakala Prabhakar , an economist and author, to Rishita Khanna. Edited and published by Sharmada

Election Commission is the BJP, and BJP is the Election Commission. There should be no doubt about it whatsoever. A letter was issued by the Election Commission with BJP's stamp. After much furore, the Election Commission admitted the mistake and suspended the officer involved. But then, the same Election Commission sent notices through the Kerala Police to those who had shared the letter on social media. If the mistake had been accepted, then what is the point of notices issued to all? This is clear proof of a nexus between the BJP and the LDF in Kerala. What was the BJP's seal doing inside the Election Commission’s office? Is the Election Commission now issuing documents on behalf of the BJP? Why do all such so-called “mistakes” only happen in favour of the BJP? Whenever any tampering or error has been caught in EVMs till date, why does the vote always go to the BJP? Why don’t such “mistakes” ever happen in favour of the Congress, or other opposition parties? This is not just about a stamp or a seal. This is about the trust on which our electoral democracy is built. But instead of correcting the mistakes, those who raise issues are being harassed.

This is detrimental to our democracy; it is an attempt to weaken it. An institution meant to be impartial has ceased to be so...Who is tampering with a constitutional body in this manner just to cling to power? This implies that the governments formed during this period are unconstitutional."
