China has opened its first humanoid robot training center in Shanghai's Pudong District. As I already said, China goes all in humanoid robotics. The USA is following suit to some extent. Europe is losing: no investment in AI or Robotics whatsoever.

Japanese Experts: China’s Robotics Capabilities Are Highly Advanced; Japan Unlikely to Catch Up Soon On July 23, the Nikkei xTECH website released a video showing Japanese technicians dismantling the G1 humanoid robot made by the Chinese company Unitree Robotics, in an effort to examine its internal structure and technological sophistication. Throughout the process, the Japanese technicians and reporters marveled at the high level of technology embodied in the Chinese humanoid robot. They ultimately concluded that Chinese robotics development has clearly moved beyond the stage of mere demonstrations; regarding humanoid robotics, it is "likely unrealistic" for Japan to narrow the gap with China in the near term. Japan was once a global pioneer in the robotics industry, holding a dominant position—particularly in industrial robotics. Today, however, China has achieved a world-leading status in the field of humanoid robotics, driven by mature, refined manufacturing processes and technological innovation.

DAVID: PATRIKARAKOS: China is a colossal actor that often stays in the background. China needs Iranian oil, it's in many ways keeping Iran afloat. Now in the short term I think this benefits China, if Iran's cutting off the oil to other people, China will still keep flowing. -- They need energy security. China imports so much of their stuff, they need the Strait of Hormuz flowing. In the short term, it benefits them, but in the long term, if this continues, there's inflation, economic pressure. NVIDIA CEO Jensen was on fire in his Dwarkesh interview. He makes two incredibly important points in this clip. First, Anthropic and their ilk had better stop scaring everyone that AI is akin to a nuclear bomb. This meme will only hold the US back while the rest of the world (and most importantly China) will pass us by. Second he makes a basic economic argument about worldwide technology dominance. If the US does not allow NVIDIA to foster their ecosystem in China, China will create their own AI tech stack and will eventually crowd out the US’s AI lead everywhere in the world, and eventually in the US itself. This isn’t theoretical. The US conceded manufacturing to China and is desperately trying to claw it back now. 90% of rare earth refining is done in China: raw materials for magnets, meaning motors, meaning drones, meaning military superiority in the end. China is not some backward third world economy that geriatric policy makers might envision. Yes, they are currently behind in advanced chip making, but western lead in that area won’t last. Meanwhile they are ahead in some areas of AI architecture. So the US has a choice. Be confident and compete against China, or eventually cede the AI tech stack to them. Jensen is correct here.
