“Agents will use the web 1,000x more than humans. Hence, new tech is needed and new business models are needed. No tech built for a certain scale survives three orders of magnitude. When you need new business models alongside new technology, a problem becomes really interesting.” Parag Agrawal

1,000x the traffic, 0x the ad clicks. Good luck with those business models.

Exactly. We had http/html for websites (WWW),we need the same for agents, like @SocontraInc . MCP/APIs to connect agents is not standardized and scalable.

What do you think are some of the best business models optimized for AI agents?

At 1,000x usage, the scarce resource is trust in the action, not generating another page view. In claims, an agent needs a clear owner for exceptions and a record of why it made a decision. Otherwise scale just multiplies unresolved cases.

Current business models break at that scale

If agents become the main users, the web’s interface layer may need a rethink.

the bottleneck isn't scale, it's redesigning incentives so agents settle and verify without human fallback.

Everyone skips the compute cost. A billion agents routing every page through an LLM makes power the real bottleneck. Barakah nuclear in Abu Dhabi gives 5.6 GW of carbon-free baseload, most US grids cannot say that.

if agents use the web at that scale, sites will have to serve software as well as people. the interaction patterns could change even when the pages look familiar.

Intelligence Tax has to be added as the cost of change from the old era to new era of efficiency.

It seems like agents need to adapt to new business models and tech that can handle large orders of magnitude!.
