This should have been a feature. Blizzard dropped the ball. It would have been just an option, and would have added literal new perspectives on the game. It's all there already.

You should build one act fully in 3d so when you pan around it feels like a 3d world instead of the black walls that would be an amazing demo

Diablo 2 units were actually made in 3d and then baked as a set of 2d layered frames for the engine to render them in sync to do "pseudo 3d", emulating 3d rotations. I mean your doll rotates showing you all parts but it is not a 3d rotation, it's a merge of frames under certain degree. Very cool (same as in infinity engine) but I think it was rather a technology limitation, not "intention".
