AI is highly functioning software - it is not an alien being. The greatest risk we run is letting our fear & anxiety about the future of AI slow us down while other countries pass us by.

I think the reason the “alien being” analogy is often apt is because there’s a real sense in which models are closer to “grown” (on piles of data and flop) than “programmed”.

The real risk isn't falling behind other countries. It's moving so fast we can't course-correct when something breaks at scale. Who wins the race if the destination turns out to be wrong?

LOL. You should listen to the leading AI researchers and ELON, many who are warning of massive job losses and dislocation of the foundations of society. Hopefully they are wrong.

Brad, you're preaching to the choir on X. This admin's decisions and strategy are so unpopular they're going to push the country to elect anti-AI politicians. The war and energy prices skyrocketing will only make it worse. You basically (although I'm sure unintended) had everyone buy the top with the Trump accounts. If there's not a serious pivot from admin to focus on affordability, healthier economy and job growth, along with a better market and less chaos, all of these AI ambitions are at risk.

It is only not alien insofar as we know how it works and what it will do in various situations, including out of distribution. That is, not enough. This is not to say there are no risks to being surpassed by China, largely because of Nvidia.

As with every major technological revolution, some jobs may go away however many more new jobs will be created. Americans should rest easy for the wonderful future and abundance AI will bring.
