At the end of the day, heads need to roll. The sheer incompetence of our leaders and idiotic do gooders pushing agendas. There has to be a point where we start holding the bureaucratic cabal liable for their negligence and or incompetence. Not just sacking them and paying for their retirement. They need to be punished for their crimes and thrown in prison. This truly must stop.

So it doesn’t matter how much solar we have will still have to be able to produce the same amount of power so it’s done nothing for the environment, more if the great climate lie

The obvious thing to do is have an inverter and batteries, charge the batteries during the day when power is cheap and use the stored power when it is expensive. This will reduce peak demand on the grid. Oh but that is exactly what roof top solar does and that is the trade off.

A good problem to have? My father tells me of how, in earlier times, expanding electrical grids became a structural problem for the lighting fuels distribution grids (kero and gas).

I’d be interested in hearing @FootnotesGuy position on solar farms vs rooftop solar given farms are paid to disconnect from the grid during the day.

Australian grid is a complete mess. It’s such a shame the people making the decisions are the very least knowledgeable to do so. Whoever is advising them has no idea. Wind and solar generators are far too inconsistent, unreliable and they don’t tell you about dirty power.

Kind of bullsh*t, solar on your rooftop is a good thing. You have to add home batteries. But now your argument is sacrifice personal safety for the group

There is a better answer. No grid tie for the solar. Have the solar on your roof charge onsite batteries that feed your home's use with power only coming INTO the system from the grid not ever going out. This is how it should have always been. Here people will say that means people would need batteries etc. Yes. People will say that will make it more expensive... maybe. It depends. One thing going on here is that people have an all or nothing idea with solar. What if the solar just kept your basic home services going? Refrigerator. LED lights in the house. Internet. Some charging ports for your phones and maybe a laptop. Everything else in the house would draw from the grid inherently. If power gets cut due to a natural disaster. Your frig etc still runs. You can't wash clothing or run the electric range for a few days. But your cell phones work. Your food isn't spoiling. And you're not in the dark. A system that provides all that can be very cheap. Power generation doesn't scale on the utility of what you're powering but on the watts its providing. So segregate your power usage into high and low utility use. Have backups for the gas range. Have a charcoal BBQ you can use for a few days if the power goes out. Doing this you have solar, your power draw drops a lot more than you'd think because the high utility stuff is generally very consistent. And because we're keeping the overall watts low of the system we can do it cheaply.

These are such narrow views. We’re in a literal war of freedom kicking off with AI and Australia has too much power? Come off it. Put Nvidia GPUs and batteries in houses so we’ve got a chance at having some sovereignty. Make the weakness an advantage.

Even Bowen has belatedly realised this; thus the taxpayer funded home battery push. It was always a scheme that capitulated to Chinese grey warfare. Being told to supply your own solar and home battery after being saddled with $1 trillion in liabilities on the ledger is insane.

Poles and wires are old technology. Its like running the country on copper and dial up internet. All power needs to be hyper localised. If we upgrade the grid to double our current consumption it would simply cost too much and too long to implement. Everything will be off grid

Profilbild von Evan
Evanvor 4 Monaten

A few errors here: - Poles and wires are worked into the daily supply charge we all pay, not the retail energy prices - To be compliant, inverters can be shut off remotely over wifi (or by overvoltage as he reports) but blackouts for overvoltage is a bit extreme.

"Our outdated system can't handle new technology and it's the technology's fault" All of these problems (I'm a layman) seems straightforward but pricy. Update regulations so they reflect this supposed shifting of burden. Install smarter transformers, build more batteries

Who privatized the electricity grids i.e sold public utility monopolies ? Now private monopolies built out using public money have us by the balls.

Rooftop solar is a major plus for Australia But it can be improved further!! With residential batteries so some of the daytime solar energy can replace fossil fuels for the evening demand peak @benmooreau @KIVUNature

I have been saying this for years: ‘Cheaper Power Bills’ will never occur because Retailers will never take a hit on profits. It’s simple business math. The only cheap power is living 100% offgrid.

So cheaper electricity is why the overseas owned fossil fuel companies that pay no tax in Australia have to put our electricity prices up. I think even Aussie MAGAs are going to struggle with that lie you are telling.

Over $4B has already been spent on EV subsidies, with costs projected to exceed $10B. Yet most subsidised vehicles weren’t required to support V2H/V2G. Billions spent, little lasting public benefit, and a once-in-a-generation opportunity to create a vast distributed battery ntwk

The government pushed rooftop solar. Gave financial incentives. You can’t blame people who did the right thing, quite often adding the cost of the solar to their mortgage bill.

The biggest issue is that solar panels without batteries are not sustainable. Without batteries, we are fooling ourselves.

Profilbild von EngiXer

Rooftop solar should be accompanied by grid storage. Adding batteries to the system can stabilize the presence of solar on the grid & lower costs for everyone. Large scale inverters can completely replace the massive inertial turbines that currently do that.

So theres a surplus of electricity from utilities? One would assume that makes electricity much cheaper and stimulates new electricity using projects. Is that not happening? Why?

Oh shame between bills and taxes do the energy companies and government not have enough record profits and tax capital to engineer a system that’s more capable of handling 2-way variable load? The problem is real but the suggestion that solar shouldn’t be everywhere is bullshit
