This is a false dichotomy. Thinking and feeling work together in our worship of the living God. Just read the Psalms. If we take Begg's over broad statements and straw man arguments to their conclusion, then King David's feelings in prayer and worship weren't " biblical." This is one of many examples of the importance of feeling in worship, but I could point to the apostles and the early church fathers who would agree that feeling and thinking should work together as complete expressions of our worship. If the God we worship things and feels, then those made in His image and likeness will feel and think when they worship. I like Alastair, but he has grossly overstated the primacy of knowledge over feeling.

So has he been given a pass on his gay marriage stance? Has he repented, or are we merely charmed by his accent?

Isn't gnosticism just as bad as emotionalism? He's correct, I'm not saved by what I feel. I'm also not saved by what I know. I'm saved by grace through faith - ask me what I believe! Worship is confession and profession of belief in His goodness. We could argue that he means "know" as a synonym for belief, but if you're going to be semantically particular about "feel" to correct people, you must be semantically particular about "know" as well.

What's not magnificent is him advising Christians to attend gay weddings. Fear the Lord not man.

A brilliant case made here by Alistair of knowing that transforms vs feeling that paralyses.

We are to worship in SPIRIT AND TRUTH. It’s not an either or. If it’s only knowledge, well, knowledge puffs up but love builds up.

I'll join the voices asking for a balance. Yes, truth matters. Yes, my emotions matter. Both-and, not either-or.

This was several years ago but man, you listen to what passes as “worship” music today and it’s 100x worse. Every other lyric is a personal pronoun. Who are we worshipping, here?!
