Alistair Begg’s framework for preparing sermons: 1. Think yourself empty. 2. Read yourself full. 3. Write yourself clear. 4. Pray yourself hot. 5. Be yourself. 6. Forget yourself.

If the fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom, then what is its end? Cut through the abundant nonsense, empty platitudes, and conventional musings of the world and get straight to the heart of what it means to be wise.

The first thing he mentioned before the 6 points, is praying and seeking the Holy Spirit ...

Does Alistair “prepare “ his sermons or are they predestined before the foundation of the world? He’s a Calvinist so actually God divinely decreed every thought, word and deed of Alistair, right?

Thanks for sharing this @MattSmethurst. Each has his own style & method. The corollary is that one person’s style probably won’t work n the same way, and in the same form, for others. However, it is useful to learn people’s styles & methods, so that one can develop his/her own.✝️

Oh my. Silliest thing I’ve ever read on sermon prep! Alistair… better to adhere to biblical counsel and resources: Consider these: ”For Ezra had set his heart to study the law of Yahweh and to practice it, and to teach His statute and judgment in Israel“ Ezra 7:10 ”They read from the book, from the law of God, explaining and giving insight, and they provided understanding of the reading.“ Nehemiah 8:8 ”¶The law of Yahweh is perfect, restoring the soul; The testimony of Yahweh is sure, making wise the simple. The precepts of Yahweh are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of Yahweh is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of Yahweh is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of Yahweh are true; they are righteous altogether. They are more desirable than gold, even more than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover, by them Your slave is warned; In keeping them there is great reward. Who can discern his errors? Acquit me of hidden faults. Also keep back Your slave from presumptuous sins; Let them not rule over me; Then I will be blameless, And I shall be acquitted of great transgression. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Yahweh, my rock and my Redeemer.“ Psalms 19:7-14 ”Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.“ 2 Timothy 2:15 ”All Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be equipped, having been thoroughly equipped for every good work.“ 2 Timothy 3:16-17 ”I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.“ 2 Timothy 4:1-4
