Even Bloomberg and Reuters—two of the most relentlessly anti-China media outlets—could not avoid revealing the truth in their own question: The U.S. Federal Communications Commission announced a ban on imports of humanoid robots without naming any country. Yet China is currently the dominant supplier. What is China’s response? The funniest part is this: China holds six of the world’s ten most innovative humanoid-robotics start-ups, including a clean sweep of the top five, while the United States is falling behind. So competition was renamed “national security.” China’s response was unusually direct: Protectionism will not make the United States more competitive. China responds to EU sanctions with export restrictions The European Union officially announced its 21st sanctions package against Russia on July 23, adding 14 companies from China and Hong Kong to its sanctions list. In response, China decided to place 14 EU organizations under export control measures, citing the protection of national security and interests, compliance with international non-proliferation obligations, and a response to what it called unfriendly actions by the EU. Under China’s Export Control Law and regulations on dual-use items, Chinese exporters are prohibited from supplying dual-use goods to the listed organizations. I spent a month in Shenzhen visiting factories and robotics companies, and the contrast with the U.S. was striking. While Figure and Boston Dynamics hide their humanoids behind closed doors, Chinese companies have massive showrooms open to the public. But what really stood out wasn't just the transparency, it was how good they are at selling. Take UBTech: they've already sold 1,200 humanoid units at $200k each to factories. And here's the kicker, these robots aren't even that useful yet. They can only pick up and drop boxes at 1/10th the speed of a human, and factories still need to hire system integrators to train them for specific tasks. My theory is that these factories are terrified of getting left behind in the robotics/AI wave. They're investing in new tech not because it's ready, but because they can't afford to wait. The second surprise was the breadth of their robotics portfolio. These companies aren't just building humanoids, they're deploying service robots everywhere: restaurants, hotels, apartments. Consumer robots are cleaning houses, pools, pet waste, dishes. They're covering the entire spectrum. But the education piece shocked me most. I picked up what I thought was a high school or college robotics textbook, it was for primary school. The government mandated AI and robotics education starting in elementary school. Almost every single school in China now has AI and robotics curriculum, complete with education robots so kids can learn by building. But here's what I think people are missing: the race isn't just about who can build robots faster or cheaper. China is building the physical infrastructure, but they're also learning fast. Every deployed service robot, every classroom full of kids building with education kits, every factory running humanoids, that's all data collection at scale. The window for the U.S. to establish its wedge is narrowing. It's not enough to be better at AI or software anymore. We need to be building the integration layer, the intelligence that makes physical AI actually useful, not just impressive in a showroom. Because right now, China isn't just manufacturing robots. two weeks in Shenzhen and it’s an been eye-opening experience im here for a month with MIT SCALE and the speed of hardware production is easily 10× faster than sf. from product concept to production, everything is streamlined within a single building. Nearly every component you could need is available immediately thru Taobao(e bay of China) or HQB and there are 24/7 makerspaces equipped to build anything from micrometer-scale PCBs to full assembly-line robots. What’s striking is that Shenzhen already has much of the hardware and robotics that startups in sf are still trying to build except these systems have been deployed and operating for years. The manufacturing capability, supply chain depth, and technical execution here are world-class. That said, one gap keeps surfacing: brand design, storytelling, and cohesive user experience. Software polish, UX consistency, and attention to detail often feel secondary. Take this with a grain of salt, but it increasingly feels like the company that pairs Shenzhen-level hardware velocity with strong design sensibility and UX-first thinking will dominate the market.

This is honestly one of the most impressive buildings I’ve ever seen The British Trade Minister just visited Shenzhen for the FIRST time in 40 years last week and just think, how many politicians around the world could understand where China is and where it is going if they simply came and saw the truth with their own eyes. Chinese factories can build a car in 77 seconds, with robots doing the work at a scale the U.S. cannot match right now. And Trump is out here talking about tariffs like they are a magic switch that makes America “make things again.” Look at the automation in that kind of plant. Even with tariffs, it would take the U.S. decades, realistically 40 years, to rebuild the industrial base and the machine building capability needed to produce that level of robotics at scale, then stack enough volume to get true economies of scale. And for what, exactly. U.S. cars barely have a market outside the U.S. Meanwhile China builds for the world. As for the rest of the planet watching America’s tariff daydreams: couldn’t the world care less.

China is smart. China learned from the US's successes, using only the best parts. It's our turn. We should be learning from China. China's economy is growing three times faster than that of the USA. China leads in almost all areas of science, and has the best infrastructure the world has ever seen. The number one priority of China is tell help their people become more prosperous, especially the least well off. Is there still work to be done. Hell yeah. But there difference is that they are trying and we are not. I've been to hundreds of Chinese villages, for more than a decade, and people are becoming better off each year. They call it 'Socialism with Chinese Characteristics.' We don't need to replicate their system. But we should be learning from it. For those ignoring it, you are hurting America. Pretending China's model isn't successful is preventing the US from improving and learning. The China-Haters should be ashamed of the damage that they are doing to the West. Instead of slander and Sinophobia, we need to be learning from the successes of other nations and their peoples.

In the late 1930s and during World War II, the Allies accounted for 65–75% of global warship production. Today that balance has reversed: China, Russia, and Iran now represent roughly the same share, as I published in December. When I refer to ground forces, the Allies’ share during the same period of 30s-40s, was at least 60%. Today the correlation has also flipped and places NATO at a greater disadvantage: Russia, China, and Iran account for more than 70% of global production of tanks, artillery, and armored vehicles. But nothing is as striking as missile production, which has no parallel with World War II. Today China, Iran, and Russia are responsible for roughly 90% of global production of ballistic and cruise missiles across short, medium, and long ranges. Production of components and precursors for modern explosives in Russia, Iran, and China also exceeds 50% of global output, without considering rare earths. My article should be published in a few days.

🇨🇳🇾🇪🇸🇦 China is now operating with a strategy built decades in advance. Following the Houthi blockade of the Bab el Mandeb, while the region faces growing disruption, China appears to be calmly maintaining access to its energy supplies through the Strait of Hormuz, while its commercial vessels continue transiting the Red Sea without facing significant interference. Why? China identified the world's key strategic chokepoints years ago and began establishing military and logistical footholds near them long before today's crises emerged. At present, two Chinese commercial vessels are reportedly loading oil at Yanbu and continuing their journey through the Red Sea toward the Arabian Sea. The Houthis have issued warnings and imposed a blockade, yet Chinese shipping continues to move. The reason is simple. China has a military presence in Djibouti, positioned near the Bab el Mandeb. Any serious attack on Chinese shipping could trigger a much stronger response. This is the advantage of long term strategic planning. China is not reacting to the crisis today. It positioned itself for it years ago.
