I had always thought "How do they come up with these things? That's too smart, that is no longer credible!". And then, these types of tricks with shapes and rulers really are just moving things around (shapes invariant to translation). But still, how do you find these? Well, (me going naive in tone here to deliver the angle), well, I think the mathematicians just enumerate all things that are mathematically possible. They just try out literally everything that can be done with symbolic math, write it down, and remember it. And we've seen this, right? Enumerating all the things which a bunch of materials and tools can do. Enumerating ideas, in fact! And this is also how "big philosophy" can be found, and totally is being found these days! It's not all like that, but some of it. Armchair philosophers running around, and enumerating all that is to enumerate, categorizing it, remembering it, and amassing it! « Like... uhhh... are you running around all day, like, thinking? » 👨‍🦰 « Like, yeah, bruh, I run around all day thinking. » 🎧 « You should try it. » 😸 Really, you're supposed to use your mind and get mileage out of it. There are various good, but also better ways of using the brain that you have. 🧠 You are also born with a body, which you may use, and really are supposed to use. If you're into thinking, you can still use your biological hardware as a source of ground truth, and as a way to experiment, in using your body as an evolved interface into nature! 🐼 You'll be in good company. 🧪 🧟😀😋
