Amazing video captures moment Lufthansa A320-200 has an engine failure just before takeoff from Frankfurt Airport. The incident on the 27th August occurred due to a bird strike prompting the crew to return to the airport moments later. 📹 Sullyandplane

Rumor has it the gear on that planes remains extended to this day.

Gotta admit, the pilots did an amazing job (well-trained), considering the bird strike - and resulting power loss in the right engine - happened at probably one of the worst possible moments: between decision speed (V1) and rotation (VR).

That’s why we practice V1 cuts. It’s basically the worst time to have power loss. The crew did great!

Wow. Looks like just at the threshold of V2

They would fly the engine out easier if they’d selected the gear up ..

Interesting to see the startle effect. They are controlling the flight path well, but they are so apparently so startled that they don’t have the capacity to retract the gear, although that’s something you practice over and over and over again. “Positive rate, gear up”.

Who just sits out at every airport filming every departure? Isn't that the only way somebody could have captured this?

“V1…and, o crap….I mean rotate, and I’ll get the checklist”

Now that’s a great advert for @Airbus
