America needs people who know how to build things, fix things and make things work. Electricians. Technicians. Welders. Plumbers. Construction workers. Manufacturing experts. These careers matter. The people who do them matter. And America’s future depends on them. America is currently facing a skilled trades crisis: an estimated 2.1... show more

More on the "why" behind this campaign from Derrick Feldman, Managing Director at Ad Council Research Institute:

Okay, then explain why warranty time pays technicians less per hour than customer pay? Why does the technician need to take a pay cut over faulty manufacturing issues? The dealer, sure, they can make less, but why does the technician owe that to the manufacturer?

I believe there remains criticism of the pay scale and retention tactics of automotive technicians.

@jimfarley98,Ford says America needs people who know how to “fix things and make things work.” Our 2021 Explorer died at 100,266 miles with P0756/P0766. Ford and Englewood Ford refused to even inspect it and told us to remove it. Fixing things starts at home. @Ford @FordService

Jim, glad to see a team is working on this strategic effort for the future of American industry. High school education once included woodworking, metal work, welding, auto shop, culinary skills, sewing. It was basic education. It gave youth confidence and more career choices. Look forward to seeing your team make inroads with our youth. And that schools will be receptive to prioritizing this messaging.

Does it matter? Are we gonna get paid a fair wage or salary? Research says my 25 plus years as a manager in my field should be making 120k-170k but yet I make 60k and barely making it. The rich keep banking those millions though!

Pay them more

What about people in their 30s and 40s. Are there opportunities at Ford for them in skilled trades?

do not dream, this generation is only phone productive (or not). The latino inmigrants were the answer, but America got rid of them

INVEST IN BUILDERS

The open positions require years of training and on the job work prior to being certified. Why risk it if the ai power people are telling us robots will do it all later?

We spent 20 years telling kids the “smart” path was a four-year degree, then acted shocked when nobody wanted to wire the factories, weld the frames, or fix the machines. If trades are going to win talent back, show the pay, the progression, and the pride — not just the shortage.

American needs an auto company that DOESNT have record recalls. Loser.

Ford says people who solve real problems matter. I agree. I’m asking Ford to solve one for an existing customer: my Mach-E has $4,000+ in repairs, the dealer says Ford controls coverage, and Ford sends me back to the dealer. Please have someone with authority review the case.

No one wants to work for Ford, Jim, because of how warranty work pays, and because Ford set a record for recalls this year. Recalls that will have to be fixed by techs only flagging 1/2 rate. You make them pay for C suite and engineering's mistakes.

If only you didnt lose all that Canadian labor?

More hands-on learning opportunities and apprenticeships can definitely help bridge the gap!.

my uncle welds pipeline in north dakota and makes more than my brother with a masters. nobody wants to hear it though

You’re just going to build more robots to take our jobs. This is just PR.

Paid apprenticeships would make this message a lot more convincing. Show young people a paycheck and a path to move up, and you’ll get their attention.

It also needs vehicles that dont cost as much as a house! U dont want Chinese cars, u want to keep robbing americans of their hard earned money with ur ridiculously inflated prices. I cant wait for the day u leave ford or get fired! Regular 9-5s cant afford a decent cobra anymore

Yes we do, and we need to keep our right to repair.
