Thomas Jefferson, who wrote the Declaration was 33! Alexander Hamilton was barely in his twenties when he became one of Washington’s closest advisors. James Monroe was 18 when he left college to fight for independence and was wounded crossing the Delaware. Marquis de Lafayette came to America at 19 because he believed liberty was worth fighting for.” The average Continental Army soldier wasn’t 50 years old. He was around 19 to 22. The American Revolution was, in many ways, a youth movement. Young Americans pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor to build something greater than themselves. Happy 4th of July!
