Imagine buying a toaster but it won't toast bread unless you pay a monthly 'heating coil' subscription. It’s actually insane that this is legal. Did she manage to find a workaround or is she stuck with it?

I just recently found a solution for my HP printer requiring this. If I can, anybody can do it!

1. Switch to a free “Office-type” software package like OpenOffice. 2. Do not buy the cheaper printer models that end in an “e.” They are the ones that require a subscription. 3. Buy a toner based printer instead of an ink based one. They cost a little more, but the toner doesn’t dry out like the ink cartridges do 4. Set you color printer to grey-scale if printing in black. Otherwise, it will print using a combination of colors to create black, using up much more ink.

Yes, the HP subscription model is the biggest scam out there and it will lock your printer up If you don’t keep your subscription active, you can’t take the ink cartridges out and put any other brand of ink in. You can only get their ink through the subscription and if you print too many pages, they charge you like $.10 a page. It’s outrageous. I will never buy another HP printer again. @HP

Wait until the car companies want you to have a subscription to use your heater, AC or cruise control. The phone already does this for many app subscriptions. It’s eating up everyone’s money a few dollars at a time like a tax so you don’t notice (until you do).

Don't buy HP. Simple. Scams are their business model now. Don't need to know model numbers, specifications, or anything. Skip HP. They were a great company once, but that was a long time ago.

AND it's going to be cheaper to buy a new printer than their ink. AND, if you leave it on all of the time, it will automatically use a link ink each night to "clear the heads". It's pure theft.

She is confused as the Instant Ink subscription is for ordering her ink, not to print, something she misunderstood. Something is not right here. We have HP printers too and never have had to pay for a subscription to print, the Instant Ink is for ordering replacement ink.

Years ago I had a candy company. We made specialty lollypops. HP ordered lollypops for a company picnic in the shape of their logo. They never paid because the said it was a copyright violation, even though they requested the shape etc. I had to have a special water cooled die made for shape they wanted. THEY wanted. Being a small company we couldn't fight them. I got screwed. they did this AFTER the candy was delivered

She can't read. I have an HP printer. HP wants everyone to subscribe to get toner or ink refills automatically, but one doesn't have to subscribe to use the printer. I'm not a subscriber & use mine all the time. Every few days I get a pop-up wanting me to subscribe. I just close it and continue on.
