I urge everyone to watch this report by Channel 4 News about Israel’s killing of Lebanese journalist Amal Khalil. “Under international humanitarian law, journalists are afforded the same protection as civilians… If that journalist has a particular sympathy with a particular cause, that doesn’t mean that protection is removed… … the IDF said the incident is under review. Don’t hold your breath…” Providing the necessary context and not taking Israel’s claims at face value. This is how every journalist should be reporting.

Her newspaper Al Akbar has put out a video tribute. Lebanon’s Minister of Information condemned the incident describing the targeting of journalists as a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and calling for international action.

Russia’s drone and missile strikes on Dnipro, Ukraine are the latest in a series of attacks on the country amid Russia's ongoing war of aggression. The strikes, which happened earlier today, injured at least 18 people. Among them were children. The attacks hit civilian buildings and set them alight, causing firefighters to attend the scene. Last week, Russia carried out one of its largest aerial attacks yet on Ukraine, involving over 1,500 long-range drones and missiles. In Kyiv alone, one Russian strike on a residential building killed at least 24 people including children, as rescuers cleared the rubble. Across the city, dozens of civilians were injured and residential buildings were damaged. Earlier that day, other Ukrainian cities, including Rivne and Ivano-Frankivsk, were also under attack, with civilians killed and injured there as well. A UN vehicle carrying aid to Ukraine’s southern city of Kherson was also struck last week, followed by another hit while the delivery was underway. Amnesty International has documented numerous war crimes and other crimes under international law committed by Russian forces since the beginning of its war of aggression against Ukraine. This includes deliberate attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure. These are crimes under international law. Russia’s aggression must be stopped, and civilians in Ukraine must be protected.

The daily horror in Gaza continues: this is how civilians are killed regularly, regardless of claims that they are protected, receive evacuation notices, are served notification flyers, or told to vacate an impending strike zone. IDF airstrikes have killed hundreds of civilians and children over the past few days - images that are far too graphic to show here. This is not a war solely against Hamas; it is a campaign of annihilation that's decimating entire families, communities, and groups of displaced civilians - all because they happen to be at the wrong place and at the wrong time. These are not "mistakes" by the Israeli military: these are crimes for which there must be accountability. Even if there is a legitimate military target in one area, morality, international law, and Israel's own rules of engagement place limits on how many civilians can be harmed in the process, something that has been regularly disregarded for many months - including through the expansion of what is deemed as acceptable "collateral damage" or appropriate ratios for "proportionality." Again, the IDF's campaign in its current form is not going after Hamas, but is harming the entirety of a population that is powerless to stop a war they did not start.
