RIP Sam Neill (1947-2026) I Just heard the news of Sam Neill's passing. He was an exceptionally gifted & versatile actor who starred in many great movies. His acting in "Possession" (1981) alongside Isabelle Adjani will always remain one of the greatest horror performances of all time. I can't think of any other actor who could have pulled off this mad movie convincingly; especially with Żuławski at the helm. "Possession" was also his personal favourite among his works.

Kamal Amrohi's Razia Sultan (1983) was one of the most expensive Indian movie of its time. It was based on life of Razia Sultana who was daughter of Sultan of Delhi Iltutmish. Iltutmish destroyed the historic Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain and many other temples. Many Hindu women were kidnapped and kept in his harem. None of this was shown in this movie. In one of the scene from the movie, Iltutmish punished his son Firuz Ruknuddin in full public view after many women complained that he molested them. When his son lost his consciousness after getting some lashes, Iltutmish took his son's place and completed the punishment. Iltutmish was shown as a lenient, benevolent, impartial and a man of justice. It was so easy to hide facts back then.

Quentin Taratino said Lawrence Fishburne’s performance in King of New York was so incredible he thought - “he could be the greatest actor of his generation”. He explains: "As great as Christopher Walken is in this movie. To me, it's Larry Fishburne's movie - it was the rock that becomes a diamond aspect of the movie. It's why I could defend this movie against all comers, because to me, Fish's performance in this movie was comparable to a young Brando. It was the most exciting performance by an actor of his generation that I'd seen in a movie of that time. And I thought, well, that's it. There is a new Marlon Brando, and his name is Larry Fishburne - it was amazing, it was mesmerizing… He is the first hip hop gangster in movie history. That character had never been done before this. He invented that character. And he invented it as something to do. It wasn't in the original script. He came up with that himself… The three big Fishburne moments to me, is his opening sequence with…Tito. That's it, with Tito - black glove dude. And his reunion with Frank. And then it's the chicken scene (see below). Those are his three big arias. Not only that though - expressions that I would later hear for the rest of the decade, I actually heard for the first time in that scene. I'd never heard the expression; “I'll slap the black off you” before. That was the first time I heard it when Fish says it to Snipes. I am so saddened to learn about the passing of our dearest legend Asrani ji. A man who was a genius of his craft & an artistic treasure. Although people will always remember him for his incredible comedy but he was a man of all seasons & styles. His dramatic roles were equally brilliant. But alas, his “Angraizon Ke Zamaanay Ke Jailor” from the Epic ‘Sholay’ will be remembered forever! I had the honour of working & spending time with him when I requested him to appear in my music video of ‘Lift Karade’ & I too wanted him to reenact his legendary ’Jailor’ character for which he generously agreed. He was so committed that he made sure that every aspect of his getup was from the original makers of the Sholay Movie- i.e The Wig, Moustache & Uniform. His enthusiasm and passion for his work was an example for us all to learn from. He was a thorough gentleman. He was full of love & grace. Thank you God for blessing us with the Genius of Asrani ji. Thank you Asrani ji for giving us so many memories! The world of comedy & indeed cinema is richer because of your priceless contribution.. God bless your soul & may you rest in peace… 🙏🖤 . #Asrani
