A CME is a Coronal Mass Ejection by the sun. This was triggered after 3IATLAS took its course around the sun.

Here we observe the solar eclipse from geostationary orbit (GOES-19) followed by a very large coronal mass ejection from the right side of the Sun. Cool!

A combination of fast solar winds and the recent arrival of a Coronal Mass Ejection from the sun, could lead to the #aurora being seen tonight, especially across the north of the UK

The Perseid meteor shower peaks tonight and viewing conditions will generally be good, with clear skies for many of us and perhaps as many as 100 meteors every hour 🌠 A coronal mass ejection from the sun may also given an enhanced chance of seeing the aurora in northern areas

The Parker Solar Probe is the only man-made object to touch the sun! Watch as it passes through a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME). The probe is equipped with a heat shield made of carbon-carbon composite, able to withstand 2,500° F.

Yesterday’s moderately-sized (M8-class) #SolarFlare produced a massive eruption (a coronal mass ejection), currently en route to Earth. Forecasters have issued a ‘severe’ geomagnetic storm watch (G4 on G1-5 scale). Expect to see misinformation about this, so here are some facts:

In a cosmic embrace the Sun has launched two coronal mass ejections to each side of the Earth. Neither will hit the Earth, but the overall energy flux from our Sun outwards into the Solar System has been elevated the past few days, strengthening the electromagnetic field of the heliosphere as a whole, just in time for the Great Saturn-Neptune Conjunction

Sometimes, the surface of our Sun seems to dance. In the middle of 2012, for example, NASA's Sun-orbiting Solar Dynamic Observatory spacecraft imaged an impressive prominence that seemed to perform a running dive roll like an acrobatic dancer. The dramatic explosion was captured in ultraviolet light in the featured time-lapse video covering about three hours. A looping magnetic field directed the flow of hot plasma on the Sun. The scale of the dancing prominence is huge -- the entire Earth would easily fit under the flowing arch of hot gas. A quiescent prominence typically lasts about a month and may erupt in a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME), expelling hot gas into the Solar System. The energy mechanism that creates a solar prominence is still a topic of research. Like in 2012, this year the Sun's surface is again quite active and features many filaments and prominences.
