An informed view on why vision + lidar is a superior approach for self-driving

Seems obvious having another way for the cars to "see" would be better. Is it too expensive/complicated to also have lidar? What's the argument against it?

LiDAR is superior by far, and devices are getting cheap. Other thing is that it's practical to have the big element Waymo uses in the roof of your car
