The system was described by Robert Heinlein in one of his novella almost 100 years ago.

Aircraft carrier catapult but for spacecraft? Not impossible but unlikely. Better to fight lower air density going vertical. Would work better on the moon or mars.

i wonder why not use electromagnetic rail to accelerate it and ignite once it leaves the track. if it's transporting rigid components, it might handle serious acceleration.
