The New Orleans New Orleans JazzFest is the Best. I love festivals and love this one the most, so I highly recommend it. I started coming 31 years ago and have only missed two because I love it so much. I come with a bunch of friends, our adult kids, and in some cases our and our friends' grandkids - so we've evolved three generations around the festival over three decades and they all love it because it's so great. It's great because it has the best music - all imaginable types from all over the world, including the biggest names (I saw the The Rolling Stones three days ago) and the most talented lesser-known great musicians (like the Meters, the Nevilles, Trombone Shorty playing simultaneously on 9 stages. It's an orgy of great music. And it has the best food -- not just for a festival but for food experiences anywhere. If I had to pick the top place to go for great eating, New Orleans would vie for my top pick. That's because it has the best indigenous food in the US, and the local restaurants have food kiosks at the Fest serving unique delectables like crawfish strudel, soft shell crab po-boys, seafood gumbo, etc. I recommend what I just told you plus a boiled crawfish sack and crawfish monica. And the people's vibe is cool too because the people couldn't be more diverse in ethnic and economic backgrounds while they share the same love of the great fundamentals of music, food, and camaraderie. It is funky - too funky/grungy for some until they settle into all the good stuff. And that's just the Fest. New Orleans has lots of great music clubs and restaurants that we wallow in after the Fest, typically til 2 or 3am. I suffer from FOMO, so I'm challenged here. My favorite music club, my favorite band, and my favorite people are the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. The music is great because the Preservation Hall (which is a tiny converted, old-world residence that holds about 40 people) attracts the best musicians in the world. There's an abundance of exciting flavors here to stimulate all your senses and it's a great place to go with friends. So I suggest you check it out next year. #JazzFest

🚨 CHINESE SCIENTISTS JUST INVENTED 3D PRINTING THAT CREATES OBJECTS IN 0.6 SECONDS USING ONLY LIGHT. Researchers at Tsinghua University have developed a new method called DISH (Digital Incoherent Synthesis of Holographic light fields) that can print complex millimeter-scale objects almost instantly. Instead of slowly building layer by layer, the system fires thousands of precisely patterned light images from multiple angles into a still vat of liquid resin. Where the light overlaps, the resin instantly hardens into a solid 3D object. The entire process takes just 0.6 seconds. Why this matters: • It’s currently the fastest volumetric 3D printing method ever demonstrated • Achieves extremely fine detail features thinner than a human hair • The resin stays completely still, so there’s no vibration or distortion • It can work with watery (low-viscosity) resins, making it suitable for biological applications • The team has already printed complex structures like blood vessel-like tubes and even a tiny bust of a historical figure The deeper implication: Traditional 3D printing has always been limited by speed and the need to move either the print head or the resin. This approach removes both constraints by using light itself as the sculptor. Because it can print directly into still liquid (and potentially onto living tissue), it opens new possibilities in bioprinting, medical devices, and rapid manufacturing. If the technology can be scaled beyond millimeter sizes, it could fundamentally change how we think about making physical objects turning “print” from a slow process into something closer to instantaneous fabrication. We’re moving from “layer by layer” to “all at once.” How do you think instant volumetric 3D printing like this could change medicine, manufacturing, or everyday life if it becomes widely available? Follow for more frontier manufacturing and materials science breakthroughs.

A very good morning. Welcome to The Council Benji This marks the third Skull in a little run. The first went to a fund I've never met. The second: through Eli Scheinman to a new collector/foundation who has been quietly entering the space in a very significant way across a number of collections whom I’ve never spoken to. Their new entrance enabled a wedding and start of a new married life for Conviction. In my very first conversation with him, we spoke about curses and commitments to the people we love. Since meeting got to talk through each step on that path, from letting go, what is imbued in the ring and ceremony of it all, a proposal, and on the way to the most important of the steps in pursuit of a blessed life. It is easy to get a little cynical on the over-leveraged exit stories that spring up from time to time, so it is a treat to watch one go towards a celebration that’s been building up in his life since the Skull was first acquired. And now: this. The third Skull and the first I can really write about as a shared story across both source and destination. An exit and an entrance. The exit: The Skulls of Luci were awarded as gifts 4 years ago. But before I'd minted Birth of Luci or painted the other 49, the first person in this space I showed the sketch of The Blueprint Skull to was actually Casey💎, when he was working at SuperRare . Casey was the very first person who onboarded me to NFTs, helping me navigate the early days of whatever it meant to even mint something. I explained the idea of gifting one to each person who bid in my first auctions. Though most of the Skulls went to the bidders, Casey's didn't. He didn't ask for one. I didn't tell him I'd give him one. But he helped me take my first steps here, and it's hard to imagine any of this making sense, or unfolding the way it has, without him. Since then, we've broken bread across continents, seen quite a lot of chortling margarita consumption, watched the rise and fall of a lot around us, weathered inter-Council dramas. He brought Laura El into The Monument Game, played as a Player, wore a Mask. Most of the vibe that started all of this, the wild west of it, feels faded in the broader space at times. But every Skull has a story and a person who helped us get here. Casey will always be the one who was there before any metric muddled the reason to care. The entrance: Last fall, Benji came over for a studio visit. We walked through Luci, the works, structure, and dream, as anyone who visits does. But we mostly talked about being a father and having a father. We discussed the very idea of "collection" stripped of accumulation, value, or signal, located more in the act or ceremony of it. What it was to grow up with a curious father who studied the edges of each thing he saw to know the next layer beneath why anyone might look or ignore it. That to pass this on is to pass on questioning, more than it is to pass on any kind of answer. The process of collecting can be perceived as an individual act of hoarding. For some it is maybe. But at its best, it's a way to bind through shared questioning, to bond in cooperation and competition with friends and family, it is the swapped story and meme of it all, and each object gathered along the way carries some shared memory that can, often does, and with intent: should; drift out of the object entirely. All in the psalm, always has been. The studio visit came and went. Soon after, a package arrived in the mail with two of the softest stuffed animals added to my daughter's own collection, now among her favorites. The Skull is a bonus to that, in the scheme of shared memory. For Rachel and I, while we are heads down making a body of work that unsettles us and excites us but demands unknown time to accomplish, it means a great deal to have this kind of support from long term people in the quiet process of making work we want to leave behind ourselves. Enormously grateful to Casey for the many years of support and friendship, to Benny for being a true patron, and to Benji for entering the arena for what I'm working on next. Welcome.

Thank you Centre Pompidou Centre Pompidou, everyone who made Nature Manifesto happen, and all the people that took it in. We were happy to see the conversations that the use of AI in Nature Manifesto sparked !! Below is a message from Björk: ~~~ “ the flood of all things from AI is overwhelming !! i am super grateful for your concerns about it´s effects on the environment , it shows you care , are curious and have integrity . i am curious too , i would like to be more informed about the difference of "frugal" AI and the ones that do hugeenvironmental damage and want to be able to choose . i asked around and found out that both the visuals and the audio in our pompidou project were done with "frugal" AI . but i have a lot to learn . when we used some of the AI softwares to merge the animals voices to mine , some of the sounds were great but to be honest , the best blends of their voices and a human were done "manually" , me editing the sounds , choosing piece by piece , looking for personality , musicality and soul . with new technology , i try to use it as a tool to grow , not a crutch . for example when i used melodyne , i used it not for lazy voice progressions but spent even more time when using it . every note in every chord became intentionally more complex . ( for example choir in "thunderbolt" ) and hopefully stretched the potential more out , further than i would have in "normal analog" physical improvisations ... i felt with this new tool i could reach new places in my musical DNA , become MORE personal . more myself . in my opinion , this is how we will work in the future . humans can read emotions on an incredibly high scale . nature made us that way . if there is no soul in tomorrow's music made by AI it is because no-one put it there and we have to speak out and guard this as listeners . ( tbh there is a lot of soulless muzak on spotify already ... they don’t need any AI help for that ...) anything that is mass manufactured without the attention of creativity , is that way . AI or not so it is not about the tool it is what you do with it . " ~~~ The visuals for Nature Manifesto were crafted by the talented Sam Balfus, artificial intelligence being one of the multiple tools used in the process. Recently did an interview with the lead developer of Knight's Path on the title's future release and the state of the industry. The Western AAA gaming industry has shifted its focus away from its core audience, favoring products for smaller, less engaged demographics. This shift has led to a noticeable disconnect between large publishers and their traditional fan base. This has, however, created an environment for indies to thrive. They can prioritize authenticity and community, crafting games that resonate with their players and that is exactly the case with Knight's Path. In December of 2023, Knights Path: The Tournament was released to Very Positive reviews on Steam. It is a short medieval RPG featuring challenging combat, an immersive progression system, and a nice little story. It served as an announcement, a combat concept demo, and a teaser for the forthcoming open-world RPG Knight's Path, which is currently in active development. I asked what their plans were regarding the scope of the full release. While you might get the impression that Knight's Path is an arena fighting game, that’s not the case with the full release. "Knight's Path will be a proper open-world, story-driven RPG. Of course, as a small indie team, we’re keeping the scope modest. The open world will be compact but dense, featuring one town, one village, castle ruins, forests, valleys, and other areas to explore." Many gamers would agree it is better to have a limited number of fully fleshed-out areas than to present a gigantic, empty world. This has been a major criticism levied towards recent releases like Pokémon Scarlet and Violet and even modern Assassins Creed, which tends to rely on repetitive gameplay loops scattered across an overly large map, which can feel more like busywork than meaningful exploration. I have always believed that quality over quantity is the best way to go. The team has also made this a priority with things such as the story and weapon types. "We plan to include three main weapon types: longsword, sword and shield, and bows. These will feature the full progression system seen in the demo, with skill levels such as Novice, Adept, Expert, and Master. Players will need to learn individual skills from different trainers to progress. In addition, we’re introducing secondary weapons like spears, halberds, and other polearms. These won’t have RPG-style progression but will still offer variety in combat." Regarding the story, they plan to be bold and strive to create a 16-28 hour-long main campaign. "The story will be divided into four chapters, with each chapter offering around 4–7 hours of gameplay. As in the demo, the player character begins as a nobody, slowly learning how to wield a sword and eventually becoming a knight. However, the progression will be much more realistic than in the demo, where the peasant hilariously transformed into a champion in just four days." This is a far cry from many games that are released nowadays. In just 2024 alone at a glance, the AA release Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn provided an average of 8 hours of content, Princess Peach: Showtime at 10 hours, Silent Hill 2 Remake at 15, and even the GOTY winner Astrobot holds an average playtime of 10 hours. A major issue within the industry is the way we are treated by the people who only have jobs because of our favorite hobby. In 2024 the gaming industry is forecasted to generate $208.7 BILLION dollars, up from 5.4% in 2023. Compare that to Hollywood, which is a measly $12.3 billion. The gaming industry employs 727,000 individuals in the United States alone. So, you'd think these people would have a little bit of respect for gamers, though so many who are vocal on social media show nothing but contempt for us. Perhaps this is because of fear if they do not show loyalty to a cause or "fit in" that they may not secure funding or genuinely believe in what they preach, but the team behind Knight's Path isn't worried about that. "We are independent developers, and we plan to stay independent so we can stay true to our vision. Knight's Path is a game made by gamers for gamers. We’re prioritizing fun gameplay above all, and we firmly believe this is exactly what gamers want." I also raised some questions about their big plans moving forward. In the demo, one of the major criticisms I had was with the voice acting. I had guessed it was done via AI, which was confirmed. "You guessed correctly– the voice acting in the demo was done by AI, and it was probably the loudest critique we received, and we totally understand why! Back then, we didn’t have much of a choice, but for the full game, we don’t plan to use any AI voices. Luckily, after the demo release, many voice actors reached out to us, volunteering to lend their voices to the full game. We absolutely plan to answer their call and give them that opportunity." AI can be a useful tool, especially for developers starting out who can't commit a lot of money to voice acting or just want to see a version of the product that's closer to what they envision the full release to be, but going from that to real voice actors will bump the experience to the next level. I myself played the demo in its entirety and really enjoyed my time with it! I thought the game was reminiscent of Gothic 2 and even The Witcher. I was happily surprised when I didn't encounter any bugs or glitches and while some areas have not been fleshed out like the voice acting, I would recommend putting the game on your wishlist to see what this team does in the future when they finally deliver their updated demo and the eventual full release of the game.

🎶Harappan Musical Instrument found in Oman Kartals (Cymbals), Circa 2250 BC 1⃣Archaeologists unearthed a pair of copper cymbals while excavating a curious hilltop mound at the Dahwa site in Oman. Nearby charcoal, dated by carbon-14 to around 2250 BC, provides a timeline. 2⃣A similar object was first found at Mohenjo-daro, but only a single piece. Scholars argued it could be a pot lid. In Oman, the find is a matched pair, stored together. Each measures 5.4 inches across, with a raised central boss and a tiny hole in the middle for a strap—like Indian kartals (also called manjira, jalra, or gini). Together, the pair weighs 254 grams. 3⃣Now that curious hilltop structure inside which these cymbals were found: it is a small rectangular building, about 150 square feet with a 4:3 ratio. It perches on a hill, overlooking the ancient Dahwa settlement. Its plastered walls, internal platforms, and outdoor installations are unlike houses in the settlement. It must have been a hilltop ritual space, echoing mini-temples — sites for gatherings and feasts. 4⃣The cymbals lay buried in a corner, in a fill layer beneath the mini-temple's floor. The cymbal pair was careful stacked. This suggests a votive deposit—an intentional offering. 5⃣So far, earliest cymbals from about 1500 BC were known. These and the Harappan cymbals break that record, being 750 years older. 6⃣The settlement below the hilltop has yielded evidence that many Harappans likely lived there. For example, the Dahwa site brims with Indus-style pottery, etched beads, and Harappan cooking wares far more than nearby ancient Omani sites excavated so far. The Dahwa cymbal pair is also very close in design to the cymbals found at Mohenjo Daro, Harappa and Chanhu-daro sites. 7⃣Harappa is famed for its "Dancing Girl" statue, now in Delhi National Museum. Dance implies music. Dance and music of ancient India can thus be traced to the 3rd millennium BC Harappans. SIGNIFICANCE: 1⃣This Oman find, as Khaled Douglas and colleagues argue in a 2025 paper, reveals Bronze Age cultural connections. Harappan merchants and miners reached ancient Oman (known as Magan or Makkan), carrying not just goods but music. 2⃣As new discoveries emerge, Harappan history must be seen beyond cities, ports, trade, seals, and script. It includes the culture and music they shared overseas. These arts must have inspired the generations that followed in ancient India. 3⃣Dahwa archaeological site tunes us into how music bonded Harappan communities—and how instruments like cymbals harmonized them with ancient Omanis. Dahwa also suggests Harappans may have practiced votive offerings and built community temples.

There’s been some confusion/comments about my use of the phrase “pull the goalie” … so I’ll explain what it means, why I use it and why I think it’s the right starting point to use for defining urban Family Friendly housing Like from this clip from Marley and Me, it has simply meant a couple having sex, while being open to having kids. The word " trying" can feel really strange at first ... so it's just the shift from preventing a pregnancy to being willing for one to happen. And there’s a very big difference between getting pregnant and deciding to be willing to get pregnant. That difference is *key* when it comes both to designing housing and to making a City more family friendly. I know plenty of couples who have gotten pregnant immediately, like on the honeymoon. And for others it has taken years of ACTUAL trying (tracking cycles, having sex at specific times of day, hormones, IVF) ... and for some of our friends despite all efforts it just has not happened. Only God knows when or if a couple will have a baby. Babies truly are a miracle. (On a related note, Marley and Me is a beautiful movie in telling the story of wanting a family and losing a baby. My wife and I have lost children, so we know a *bit* of what the heartbreak of miscarriage is like) But the shift for a couple to become WILLING to have a baby is one of the core reasons people struggle to have kids in cities. If someone looks around their apartment and thinks, “There is no way we could raise a baby here,” then they’re less likely to stop using birth control. Your home has to feel like it could accommodate a baby. A "Baby Maybe" home: a second small bedroom or a tiny home office, that could have be a nursery in a pinch. It enables the small, almost subconscious, mental threshold where you say, “You know what … we’d be fine if this happened.” That’s the moment. And for each couple, there will be 1000 other things that go into the equation: Can we afford for 1 of us to stay home, or full-time childcare? Do we see other kids around us? Is it safe enough for kids? Are there parks nearby? Do we need to be closer to family and cousins? All will be different for each family, but they ALL require that their current home is sufficient to be able to have a kid Otherwise, as soon as a couple finds out they are pregnant ... they call their parents, friends and family and tell them the good news ... and then immediately look on Zillow to move right away so they aren't giving birth AND moving the same time. It's kind of a bummer in an otherwise wonderful magical moment. We've seen many many couples move out of the City at that exact period. "Well, since we are moving anyway, we might as well go to where we think we will live long term." But it doesn't need to be that. Babies are small. At least for the first year, if you have a place to put them you're probably better off just staying in your current place and then figuring things out later. Maybe you DO need to move to the suburbs or be closer to family or you want a house with a yard. But that decision doesn't need to be right away. TLDR: Family Friendly housing doesn’t begin at birth. It begins when a couple can imagine a child fitting into their current home ... whether that's a rowhome with tiny bedrooms or a 1BR+Den apartment.

Yet another unglued Trump rally in Potterville, Michigan today that the media won’t cover. Let’s recap it: Donald showed up an hour and 27 minutes late. The workers in the crowd were using their “drill baby drill” signs to fan themselves because they were so hot. Even the news anchors were whining about the heat. A few days after he said that mortagages have gone up “four times,” he now claims they’ve “trippled.” He can’t even keep his lie straight. He had trouble saying “mortgage,” “seen,” “posthumously,” “industry,” and “comrade." He’s crying about Biden sleeping in public on the beach. He’s obsessed with Biden. He’s also not one to talk since he slept through his criminal trial. He said he just did an interview with NBC News backstage. Explains why he was late. He’d rather get airtime than show up on time to his rally while people were overheating. He talked about abortions after birth multiple times. Bro is so disgusting with this lie. He says nobody knows who VP Harris is. Yet he's talking about her. He again proves he doesn’t understand that “Marxism” and “Communism” are different. He claimed the “polls are rigged.” They’re only rigged when he’s losing. He’s cringing that Harris is refusing to sit down for an interview. She already did. It’s airing tonight. He claims “thousands of people” are there. No, they’re not. He ooohs and goos over a “beautiful young daughter” in the crowd. GROSS. 🤮 He calls the United Auto Workers “crazy.” That’s gonna go great for him. 🍿 He claimed we won’t be making cars in the US in 2 years. He’s claiming the reason why he lost Michigan is because “Democrats cheat.” Mkay, old man. All those lawsuits said that’s fake news. He claims that he shouldn't be talking about the building that he owns in San Franscisco. He then says he lost billions of dollars on it. He’s fear mongering about WW3 for about the 2304048th time in 10 years. He’s crying about Democrats talking about him when all he does is whine about Democrats. Stable genius in action. 🙄 He implies he’s being treated worse than Abraham Lincoln, who was killed. OMG. Once again he’s saying that the Presidential Medal of Freedom is better than the Medal of Honor given to our troops. His constant disrespect and contempt for our military is disgusting. He’s pushing the Wuhan lab conspiracy theory again. He’s bragging about his tarriffs saying that he saved jobs by placing tarrifs on China. Not true. He lost jobs, people committeed suicide as a result, and it crushed our economy. He thinks energy prices are called “electrical prices.” He claimed there’s only one oil refinery in the world. Bro’s mind is mashed potatoes. He said “we’re closing down all our plants” and won’t have enough electricity for anything anymore. He said we’re going to have to replace every bridge and all of the roads in the country because how heavy electric batteries are. FFS. I’m pretty sure he said “pork” instead of “torque.” I’m snort laughing. He immediately says other people “are deranged.” Methinks he’s projecting again. His face looks like it’s melting off. Imagine Rudy Giuliani’s hair dye but on Donald’s face. It's bad. He read his name out loud on the teleprompter, “under President Trump.” HAHAHA! He’s back to whining about VP Harris not doing an interview. He knows it’s already been recorded. He thinks that “no tax on tips” will help our retired seniors. Sure, bro. I'm sure 90 year-olds are really gonna be helped by that. He claimed he's gonna make insurance companies pay for IVF (these procedures cost upwards of $50k). I’m pretty sure he’s a) lying b) going to lose some donors over this. He claims he was right about everything. Uh…someone put this guy in a nursing home. He’s delusional. He says VP Harris "doesn’t care about sex slavery” when she literally created a department in California to tackle it. He said she doesn’t care about the cost of food, but he’s also whining about her talking about wanting to go after companies who price gouge. He said nobody wanted Bernie Sanders to be president, not true. I voted for him in the primaries back when. He called Elizabeth Warren “Pocahontas” multiple times. He lied and says that states are deciding whether or not to give sex changes to kids. He calls VP Harris “uncaring.” Hilarious coming from a man who made these people wait for almost 30 minutes in the heat while he did an interview. He’s lying about the incident at Arlington National Cemetery and says that he “doesn’t need the publicity.” He claimed that she failed to prosecute “pedophiles and child abusers” when she was a prosecutor and the AG. Again, she literally created a department to do that. He said she never went to the border. Then he said she went to a place on the border where people would want to have dinner. She said she didn’t speak to anyone when she was there. There’s literally video of her talking to people and touring the border multiple times. He said “I have your back, I have your heart, I have every part of your body.” WHAT THE ACTUAL EFF?!?!?!?!? He may be Hannibal Lecter. He claims that "thougands and thousands" of people, “as far as the eye can see” outside of his tiny little rally. He’s hallucinating, and lying again. He tried to do an accent of a Russian and it sounded like he was plugging his nose. He’s whining about “Critical Race Theory.” I thought MAGA forgot about that. He’s lying again about the biologically female Algerian boxer in the Olympics and called her a man and “a horse.” I hate this man. He’s trying to tell us what’s “demeaning to women.” Not letting us choose what to do with our own bodies is the epitome of “demeaning.” He claims Republicans “love women.” I nearly vomited. He’s crying about President Biden again. He really misses him. He blames COVID for projects he didn’t complete, despite having over 3 years to complete them prior to the pandemic. The last thing he said is that he hopes people vote for him, otherwise “our country is finished.” Gotta love those dog whistles. - Another message for the media: DO YOUR DAMN JOBS AND COVER THIS MAN’S UNHINGED RANTS AND CONSTANT LIES AT HIS RALLIES!!!!!

Another IG distribution update that you totally didn’t ask for. It’s been about 5 days since I started putting serious effort into content and paid ad distribution for JKIndex.io. The IG account went from around 7 followers to 40. Obviously still tiny numbers, but nearly 6x in five days. Instagram is one of the channels I specifically called out in my JK distribution thesis because collectors are already doing the exact thing JK Index is built around there. It also probably explains why this content hasn’t done nearly as well here on X. There just isn’t the same concentration of grading specific content and communities here that already exists on Instagram and Reddit. On IG, some people post guess the grade content. Others crack slabs and regrade cards. Others rip packs and ask what a potential hit could grade. > People watch > Call PSA 8, 9 or 10 in the comments > Debate over it > Sometimes return later for the grade reveal This is already an event. In a loose sense, it is already a market. It just doesn’t have a surface. 1⃣ There’s no lasting record of who actually knows how to grade. 2⃣ Hundreds of opinions never become a market price. 3⃣ The owner still has no way to protect themselves if the 10 they expected comes back a 9. That’s what Before the Slab is being built around. None of this behavior depends on JK Index existing. That’s what makes it interesting. Collectors are already doing it every day. Anyway, back to the numbers, because they at least give us something concrete. Over the latest IG reporting window, the JK Index IG had: > 29,238 views from 20,959 viewers > 99.5% of those views came from non followers > 373 interactions > 511 profile visits More importantly, since I refactored /preview a few days ago so people could play without creating an account, 262 unique guest sessions have landed on the page. 249 of them arrived with UTMs. Only 8 started a run and 5 completed one though. Regardless, finally reaching the audience I thought I could reach. Now the problem of moving them from watching someone guess a grade on Instagram to making the call themselves on JK Index. The GTM agency I hired also started this week, so I’m excited to see what we learn and whether we can actually move those numbers. Anyway, I’ll probably force another one of these updates onto your feed next week. Good day.
