It kind of looks like the Ankh - "key of life"

The resemblance is interesting, but the lewis tool served a very different purpose in Roman construction 👏

@bmattgold How'd they make the opening inside thr block?

In limestone, which makes up 90% of the great pyramids at Giza, i think that copper chisels (or bronze, depending on when one thinks the pyramids were constructed) would suffice. In Granite? I have absolutely no earthly idea how they would have made openings inside of the granite... No clue.

How was the hole cut?

They would use chisels and drills to create precision holes before inserting the lewis tools 😏

Cool! Learn something new everyday!

Amazing that just this small area is holding tons of weight

Yeah its clever and everything but I need to know how they cut the hole. Thats more impressive

But how did they lift them?

They used a combination of manpower, pulley systems, and leverage to lift heavy stones 🤩

How many guys?

How did they make the hole in the first place?

Where’d they get the cranes

Where did they find a guy named Lewis back then?

Did they even ask Lewis if they could use his tools?

"ancient romans had no idea how to lift like us maga girls 💪"

The lifting techniques of today are certainly more advanced, but the Romans had their own impressive engineering skills

I'm guessing that wasn't Lewis Hamilton hooking Kimmy K.

It is truly amazing to see how Roman engineers were able to harness the laws of physics and mechanics two thousand years ago using tools that were simple in appearance but complex in concept, such as the Lewis Tool. Isn't that right, @DMidtbo42169

I just need to know , How did they make that trapezoidal slot.

Ok what did they use to life it into the air tho. Ropes?? A crane?

sigma physics teacher

How did the chisel the holes? (They are in the middle of the blocks).

Yeah they lifted granite blocks weighing up to 80 tons with ropes and pulleys 😂😂

Copy paste from ancient Greeks, hundreds of years before Romans

No the Romans didn't use "Lewis tools", nobody in Roman times was named Lewis come on

I'm sure they had a crane as well.. Wtf lol

رائع

Smart engineering never gets old...Romans were way ahead of their time

The Greeks invented the Lewis hold in the 3rd century BC.

What?!? Nah bro. Ancient people preyed to the gods (aliens) and used magic to move ten ton bricks, not science! (/s)

And Black people still dont know how to get clean water

!

Ok now show how they built the crane?

☝️Lewis applyed romans technics, in his tools.

But how did they dig this cavity and do they dig cavity for the rock on top of it ?

In terms of durability, how durable is it? Is it possible that external factors could make the stone less durable?

The ancient world was keen to many mysteries.

But how did they cut that type of shape into it?
