Bash is all you need! Which is why I'm introducing my holiday project: just-bash just-bash is a pretty complete implementation of bash in TypeScript designed to be used as a bash tool by AI agents. Because it turns out agents love exploring data via shell scripts, even beyond coding. It comes with grep, sed, awk and the 99th percentile features that an agent like Claude Code or Cursor would use. In fact, Claude Code can use it for secure bash execution. In the package - A bash-tool for AI SDK - A binary for use by yourself or your coding agents - An overlay filesystem to feed files to your agent securely - A Vercel Sandbox compatible API, so you can quickly upgrade to a real VM if you need to run binaries - An example AI agent that explores the just-bash code base using just-bash - I imported the Oils shell bash compatibility suite and just-bash passes a very good chunk What is interesting about this codebase: It was essentially entirely written by Opus 4.5. Coding agents love bash and they are good at reproducing it. They are also great at text-book recursive descent parsers and AST tweet-walk interpreters. That said, it is, like, a lot of code and I didn't read it all 😅. This is very much a hack, but it also seems to be _really_ useful. I haven't really found anything agents want to use that it doesn't support and it's fast and secure (caveats apply). It doesn't have write access to your computer and the filesystem is given a root that the agent cannot escape from. Florianopolis 🇧🇷 is the coolest spot in South America There, I said it The island has captured my heart over the last few days: ✅ EXTREMELY safe. Way safer than most cities in Spain, for example ✅ Great beaches, not crowded at all ✅ Any kind of sports you can think of. Surfing, sandboarding, kitesurfing in the lake, padel... ✅ Cool events (was invited to a talk by Founder Haus; couldn't make it this time, but love seeing this ✅ Direct flights to a lot of different places ✅ Not hot in summer, and apparently not too cold in winter ✅ Good infrastructure (although you need a bike/car) Really really nice. I can see myself spending one/two months per year here

✅ 1 litre of ethanol can create around 8 to 15 litres of spent wash, a dark and highly polluting wastewater from distilleries. ✅ Even when factories claim Zero Liquid Discharge, the question remains: what happens to sludge, ash, concentrated waste, boiler emissions and groundwater impact? ✅ India is moving from around 1,000 crore litres of ethanol demand towards nearly 1,500 crore litres of production capacity, but are our pollution-control systems ready for that scale? ✅ The Meghalaya Byrnihat case raises a serious question because this area is already known as a major pollution hotspot, yet more industrial load is being added. ✅ Ethanol may reduce oil imports and some emissions, but if production pollutes water, air and soil, then we are only shifting pollution from cities to industrial towns and villages. ✅ India needs energy security, but not at the cost of water security, clean air and public health. ✅ The real future should be balanced: ethanol as a transition fuel, but stronger focus on EVs, green hydrogen, renewable energy and cleaner public transport. Clean fuel must also mean clean production

To combat the threat of New World screwworm, Dept. of Agriculture is taking a whole-of-government approach to keep this pest out of the United States. 🇺🇸 ✅ Stopping the spread in Mexico: Working with our partners across the border to expand sterile fly production, deploy advanced surveillance, and increase trapping in high-risk areas. ✅ Protecting the border: Strengthening coordination with Mexico on trapping efforts, ramping up public outreach, intercepting illegally introduced livestock, and enhancing inspections at every port of entry. ✅ Maximizing readiness: Partnering with state and local leaders and coordinating with our federal partners U.S. EPA, HHS, CBP, Homeland Security. Thanks to Dr. Marty Makary, treatments for NWS in dogs, cats, and cattle are now available. ✅ Taking the fight to the screwworm: Scaling sterile fly production to eradicate the population—powered by the new facility at Moore Air Base, set to produce hundreds of millions of flies to stop this pest in its tracks. ✅ Driving innovation: Working across states, universities, and the private sector to accelerate solutions and eliminate New World screwworm for good.
