Denzel Washington in Training Day is probably the greatest “I’m dead and I know it” moment. It gave us this iconic moment that won Denzel his only #Oscar for Best Actor. He should have more if we’re being real. But this is a moment where Denzel lets absolutely everything fly.

Denzel Washington lost the Oscar for Best Actor to Daniel Day-Lewis in 2013. DDL won for Lincoln, but Denzel in Flight might’ve been better. Washington explores the depths of alcoholism in a way few actors have ever done. For other actors, this would be a career-best performance.

Denzel Washington’s performance in Flight would’ve probably won him an #Oscar in any other year but 2013, where he ran into Daniel Day-Lewis who won for Lincoln. It’s hard to say whether Denzel deserved this over DDL but this is truly one of Washington’s best performances ever.

Denzel Washington’s Oscar-nominated performance in Flight has to be at the top of the list when ranking Denzel’s best work. Had he not run into Daniel Day-Lewis for Lincoln, Denzel would’ve undeniably won a second Oscar for Best Actor. Denzel is unhinged here- he’s just totally off the rails & his performance has so much range. This guy is just totally unpredictable as an actor & I cannot get enough. I love Flight.

Denzel Washington should own more than one #Oscar for Best Actor, nevertheless, the night in which Denzel actually received the recognition he deserved will always be special. Denzel won the same night the Academy honored Sidney Poitier. This is what the Oscars are all about.

Denzel Washington said his name is not pronounced “Den-ZEL.” It’s pronounced “DEN-zel.” Jimmy Kimmel: Did you know that there are currently four players named Denzel in the NFL? Denzel Washington: I know. Jimmy Kimmel: And before your… Denzel Washington: There's a lot of Denzels now. Jimmy Kimmel: There weren't that many before your first Oscar. There were zero in 1987. Denzel Washington: And this is how you know they named themselves after me. Because, wait a minute, because my name is not pronounced Den-ZEL. My name is pronounced DEN-zel. Jimmy Kimmel: Oh.
