Denzel Washington’s Oscar-nominated performance in Flight has to be at the top of the list when ranking Denzel’s best work. Had he not run into Daniel Day-Lewis for Lincoln, Denzel would’ve undeniably won a second Oscar for Best Actor. Denzel is unhinged here- he’s just totally off the rails & his performance has so much range. This guy is just totally unpredictable as an actor & I cannot get enough. I love Flight.

Denzel Washington’s performance in Philadelphia reminds me of Tom Cruise’s performance in Rain Man. Both played second fiddle to a man who won Best Actor & neither received the praise they deserved for their supporting roles. Hanks is great here, but Denzel is this film’s glue.

This is a painful story about the sacrifices veterans make & it’s some of Cruise’s best acting. I think the Cruise-Oliver Stone pairing is interesting in hindsight. 26 years later, Cruise might finally get that Oscar for Digger.
