Justin Thomas is playing the Charles Schwab Challenge this week for the first time in 4 years. Ahead of the event, he said he builds his schedule around what best prepares him for the majors and it may change year to year: “Everybody's different. I would say the most, the first and foremost, most important thing that a lot of the top guys, a lot of, anybody that's in the majors, you're going to at least I would think, is what's going to prepare me the best for the major. So like I've had success in majors when I play the week before. “But playing San Antonio the week before the Masters for me doesn't feel like that's getting me prepared as much as possible for the Masters. Therefore, I don't play San Antonio. I had a year where the PGA, when it was at Southern Hills I wanted to play the week before Byron Nelson, it's easy travel, and I played the week before. So it's very situational of when you play, don't play in that regard. “But I mean I really, really, really try with all my might to not do four in a row, four in a row is like I'm not fun to be around. It's very taxing. So I try to cap it at three. “And, yeah, there's a lot of great tournaments, we're very fortunate to have to miss some great events, but you have to at some point. I can look back on those times and say wow. The blessing it was to go against one of the greats an every single day just weight room, training, and thinking about circling the games on the calendar of when we’re going to play LeBron. Scottie Scheffler has made golf look easy over the last few years, but he’s clearly frustrated with his game this week: “I felt like I was going to shoot about 90 today. “I don't know if you were out there on the course, but I was going to be hard to find if you were out watching my group. I felt like I got my first birdie putt of the day on the 13th hole. I maybe had one on 11, but I couldn't imagine I hit more than six or seven greens today. So around this golf course, with heavy rough and deep bunkers, you got to be hitting the ball in the right spots and for a long time today that was definitely not the case for me.” Scottie was visibly frustrated yesterday at the Memorial and had a long, heated discussion with his caddie Ted Scott after dunking a ball into the water. After rallying with 3 birdies in his last 6 holes today for a level par 72, he currently sits T20 and he was asked how proud he was to comfortably make the cut after looking in danger earlier in the round: “I think I grind like that every day. I think that's just part of the game. That's maybe some of the worst I've hit it in a couple years out there and I still managed to shoot even par around a golf course that requires to you strike the ball really well. Yeah, I'm definitely very proud of stuff like that. “This tournament was one that definitely could have got away from me, but right now I'm only nine shots back and still have a chance going into the weekend. Like I typically don't love playing the week before a major. The Tour right now's in a great position. It's nice to have so many tournaments that are really good and, I mean, people always ask me about what's my favorite tournament out here and it's always hard to say because we get treated so well at all the tournaments. There's really not a tournament that I played that I haven't liked. There's not a tournament that I wouldn't want to go back to. Bob MacIntyre shot weekend rounds of 65 and 69 with 15 birdies to finish solo 4th at The Players Championship. It’s his best finish in the event and his best of the season so far. He said after: “No, it was stressful. I was actually struggling to eat early in the back nine. Yeah, it's what I want to do. It's where I want to compete. Obviously last year was a big kind of wake-up call for me in order to know that I can really compete at the top end of world golf. I had a chance today to do something very special that obviously Sandy was the last one to do it from our country. “Yeah, coming into that back nine, middle of that back nine I really thought I was in with a shout. The way I'm playing, driving it beautifully, putting unbelievable, it was just a matter of getting that ball inside 30 feet and then look out. I know I have to… I really do… but it’s not easy, yeah. And recently, well, that’s how it’s been. People say I look like I lost weight, but I didn’t. I actually gained some, I’ve gotten a bit chubby these days, all soft and round. Recently, yesterday and today too at the fansign, I saw the photos fans took of me and I totally look round/like ddeong-circle. But I look good (like this), right? Yeah. I think so too. And then I was looking at the photos from our tour, the ones where I wore that purple velvet outfit during Wake Up. And back then I was so skinny that… honestly, it didn’t look good either.

I think if there was ever a format change for the Team Championship that was going to benefit us, exactly having four days with four scores counting every day. It's, I think, where we're the strongest and we have been the strongest, and I'm glad we were able to prove it one more time. HENNI: Caleb, how good does it feel to have successfully completed the double and got it done back-to-back? SURRATT: Yeah, it's pretty awesome. It's so cool seeing what Jon did this week, grinding back from a tough start, for him at least, and it's a huge testament to a lot of hard work and hard fight from our team. HENNI: Tom, what will you take away moving forward from having spent the time that you have with these gentlemen and everything that you've accomplished? McKIBBIN: Yeah, it's been great getting to spend time with these three. HENNI: Caleb, how good does it feel to have successfully completed the double and got it done back-to-back? SURRATT: Yeah, it's pretty awesome. It's so cool seeing what Jon did this week, grinding back from a tough start, for him at least, and it's a huge testament to a lot of hard work and hard fight from our team. HENNI: Tom, what will you take away moving forward from having spent the time that you have with these gentlemen and everything that you've accomplished? McKIBBIN: Yeah, it's been great getting to spend time with these three. It's definitely made a big difference to my game and getting to play with them pretty much every time I play golf for the last two year. It's been pretty special. To do it two years in a row has been great. HENNI: Tyrrell, you've accomplished a lot this year, not least becoming a dad and now having that double Team Championship. How does it feel to be standing here at the end of it all? HATTON: Yeah, it's good. I think the previous two years we've won at least three times, and obviously winning today means that we've won three times again. Yeah, it was a good week for the team. It's been a good year. 👊 Bryson DeChambeau was happy with his strategic play in round 1 of The Open QUESTION: "Bryson, a really good shift today, 3-under 67. A little sour taste on 18, but you must be super proud of your efforts today" BRYSON: "Yeah, it was a hard fought battle out there. The wind was switching quite a bit. It was fun seeing the fans going at us, and they were rooting for all of us. It was fun just seeing the ups and downs of the group, but we all played pretty well. It was a lot of fun" "There's some driving holes out there I've got to work on. Other than that, I played really well. Made some good putts and three-putted once, but that's life" QUESTION: "Talk us through the course. Obviously it's running super fast at the moment. What did you find out after playing a competitive round with card in hand?" BRYSON: "I think you've got to be a lot more strategic out on the golf course. I feel like I did a really good job today of being incredibly strategic and focused super hard on placing it in the right places" "Besides 18, I placed the ball in some good areas. I just need to hit more fairways. Other than that, I feel like my strategy was nice today" QUESTION: "As a group, you all had a relatively good day. Do you think that standard will stay for the afternoon? The wind seems to be picking up a little bit for you boys" BRYSON: "I think so. It's difficult to say what's going to happen. You never know out here. I can say there's a lot of good scores. We're all playing pretty well. I like it when the test is hard and difficult. It definitely makes for a fun championship" QUESTION: "How important is it in a major to start well? It doesn't have to be super well, but you're in the red. That must feel really satisfying" BRYSON: "Yeah, definitely satisfying. Any time you get off to a great start, it's awesome, but there's three more days, dude.
